We got a wonderful demonstration of how the copper is heated and worked at one of the shops/workshops. I was fascinated. We came away with a new appreciation of the beautiful copper art created in this town...and some of that art came home with us....More

A fun side trip from Patzcuaro. Don’t look for fine dining here! Many small and large shops selling quality copper pieces of all sorts. Some are museum quality and expensive. Others fun for home use - Pots, pans, vases, etc.

We were here on Christmas Day, and it was wonderful! On their main Square nearly a hundred little kids were dressed in identical costumes doing traditional dances to a packed audience. The town specializes in Copper and we bought a bowl at near giveaway prices!...More

Artisans are visible making large pots, vases, and a large number of copper roses, and a variety of trinkets to be used as souvenirs. There are several upper class stores in the area, as well as smaller shops that offer a variety of hand crafted...More

Beautiful little town. To find all the copper shops just follow the sound of hammering. The prices can't be beat. We bought a copper sink for our home in Minnesota and they packaged it for air transport

Beautiful little village along the lake. Most of the workers are deaf from hammering copper all day.

Santa Clara is a great place to buy anything copper. El Portón is a wonderful store. If they don't have what you need in copper, they will make it.

As everyone knows this is the place for copper. From bracelets, rings and necklaces all the way up with large sculptures, pots & pans all at very reasonable prices. However, this is more than just the vendors around the square, take the time to visit...More

I can't answer the part about driving there, but Santa Clara del Cobre is a sleepy little village and very safe. It is very close to Patzcuaro and easy to get there by cab. Make sure that you get to see the demonstration... More
