Half Moon Bay is a lovely area to relax and read books on the beach. The surf was rough and it is rocky when you enter the water so you need water shoes if your feet are tender. We did not attempt to snorkel here as the surf was rough and we did not want to get pushed onto rocks... More

Whether its leaving your resort and spending the day or finding a resort/room on the bay, this is a perfect area to enjoy in the heart of Akumal. Enjoy the tiny village, wonderful local restaurants, clean beach with prime snorkeling, the turtle info center or dive shop.. or shop the local artisans, this is always a taste of the Yucatan.

This is a very, very touristy area. There are tons of people and the drive here is uncomfortable. The place has been snorkelled out. There a very few fish, hardly any turtles as the advertising might indicate and other than that you may see a stingray. We saw one and that was after snorkelling for over an hour. Also you... More

You many not alway see the turtles the way you do at neighbouring Akumal, but you also won't see the hundreds of people on tours, on lounge chairs and the beach! It's a great and quiet place for snorkelling.

I went here excited to do a snorkeling excursion to see the turtles. I found an outfit that paired me with a two couples from Spain. Our guide took us outside of the roped safe area to see turtles. The group I was with was relatively inexperienced and I was really disappointed to see that we were taken to a... More

We rented a property of Half Moon Bay for 10 days over the holidays. Though there is pleny of rental properties, I never seen more than 20 people in the water here at any given time. The snorkelling was great, though there is a bit of current, yet still well suited for beginners.

This relatively quiet bay provides some amazing snorkelling particularly in the southern corner. You can rent kayaks and paddle boards to explore above water.

Half Moon Bay is exceptionally quiet and is the perfect get away from the tourism at Akumal Beach. The shallow reef is beautiful and if you explore long enough, you'll be sure to spot sea turtles. Be sure and visit La Buena Vida Restaurant after your snorkel!
