The 10-minute walk from the parking lot is well worth the trek to this spectacular beach with its magnificent multi-colored cliffs, which are a national landmark. The lack of commercialism means a true escape and relaxation, but you'll need to bring food and supplies.

One of the best public beaches on the island, incredible unusual landscape - the clay cliffs are a true gem - and the historic lighthouse and views from above are worth the trip.

We drove west from Edgartown to Gay Head on the advice of our son-in-law who grew up in Connecticut. I had no idea why he advised us to go there, but it turned out to be a great stop on our tour. The lighthouse sits...More

The view of the ocean from Gay Head is terrific and broad! One can catch glimpses of the colorful cliffs, but it is worth making your way to the beach to view the cliffs from the bottom. (Truly spectacular!)

It's well worth the walk. We usually spend most of our beach time on the Vineyard there. The cliffs and the beach are amazing. Good surf at times.

Thank you for saving this National Historic Treasure. We watched the PBS documentary when it was moved and saved. It bought back so many memories when I started visiting, digging the clay from the cliffs from 65 years ago. Such an amazing treasure!!!
