Overview
More
The Martha's Vineyard Museum is privileged to be the steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The East Chop, Edgartown, and Gay Head lighthouses are not only historic reminders of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. Beyond their important functional role, these structures also offer visitors spectacular views of the breathtaking beauty of Vineyard Sound, the simple elegance of Edgartown Harbor & Chappaquiddick, and the majestic cliffs of Aquinnah. The Gay Head Lighthouse is open seasonally. A lighthouse keeper will be available and the doors will be open during designated hours. Parking is available, but limited, on Aquinnah Circle. The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) busses do have routes to the lighthouse.

Quick walk up the road to the lighthouse that was re-located from the cliffs for safety. Amazing views of the surrounding islands - fun time with the kids !

Recently moved and re-enforced. Learn about the history of the lighthouse by going and talking to the guides. It's a great view and the money goes to protecting this landmark. It's a beautiful brick lighthouse that should be preserved. Then to learn more about Aquinnah...More

Nice view, but there are nice views all over the island. I went to see the benchmark located nearby. The lighthouse was open but it was $5 to climb which seemed a bit much to me.

lighthouse is located on the far side of the island from the ferry, fortunately it is the only stop on the bus tour. The lighthouse is very nice and has recently been moved and restored. It is adjacent to the cliffs which are also worthy...More

Thank you for saving this National Historic Treasure. We watched the PBS documentary when it was moved and saved. It bought back so many memories when I started visiting, digging the clay from the cliffs from 65 years ago. Such an amazing treasure!!!

Stopped here while visiting and my daughter and her friend were surprised to find that the lighthouse had been moved. They even watched the documentary on Netflix later that evening. It was an enjoyable stop, and the views from that side of the island were...More
