We toured the museum, the active archaeological site down the hill, and then made the short drive to the tombs further down (Via di Sepulcri) It was all very interesting and we learned a lot about the Etruscans. As another reviewer mentioned, it is amazing what they were able to build and make that long ago. At the archaeological site, staff member Alessio spent 45 min talking with us and teaching about the structures and items found there, and even sent us with a picture of relics he found recently! This was a nice and educational way to spend a few hours while staying in Vetulonia.

a little museum with a good overview over the Etruscan places of the area, with changing special exibitions. In summer too hot.The museum is in Vetulonia, one of the impotant places of the Etruscan time near the sea (it had a port!).

We didn't make it to the actual museum due to time constraints but stopped at the small Etruscan city archeological site and then stopped at a handful of different Etruscan tombs scattered down the side of the hill leading out of town (via an unpaved but navigable road). The sites are all well signposted and explained in multiple languages. The structures are partially restored in some cases which adds to their impact. Very cool and not really mentioned at all in our guidebooks! So a welcome surprise.
