the Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre is a museum where people can sit in the historic carriages; enter the driver's cabins of the various locomotives and marvel at the rolling stock in the 1926 built roundhouse and admire the still functioning turntable what has all 3 gauges. Steamtown is ideal for families and is pet friendly also. Stay the night in Peterborough and attend the stunning sound and Light show that tells the story of the creation of Peterborough, about railways in South Australia and the history and personal stories associated with it and the linking of East Australia to West Australia

We visited the railway museum during the day and had an excellent guide who was very interesting and informative. Then in the evening we went back for the Sound and Light show. The show explained the history of the railways in SA very good!

Excellent place with great staff showing us around. It really would be great to see the trains move. The night show - sorry it didn't do it for me. I expected a lot lot more than a video. Book for the night visit.

Steamtown was something of a disappointment but saved by an excellent guide and commentary. The trains on display are mainly from WA and not indicative of what was used locally. However the rolling stock was more interesting. This place could be very good but needs...More

Did both the sound and light show and the tour. Would recommend doing in that order as the evening show gives you information that makes the tour more interesting

The Sound & Light Show was spectacular and gave a very thorough history of the Steam Age and the part the town played in it. Every body has a great view whilst sitting in the first class carriage.
