The Garfield Monument is worth a visit and if you are lucky to be there on a clear day the view does not disappoint. The crypt holds the coffins of the President and his wife while a climb to the top provides a view of Cleveland and the lake. If the weather is nice pack a lunch as there are... More

This monument is quite beautiful as others have mentioned. Be sure to visit the crypt below and also the observatory up top to see a great view of downtown. One thing lacking is more detailed information to describe what you are looking at (there is info available on their website - see below.) Tip: Pull up the cemetery's website to... More

A visit to the Garfield Monument is time well spent. If there is a docent on site, you will learn much about President Garfield and the monument, including the stained glass windows. Once you have seen the first floor, don't miss going all the way up. On a clear day the view of Cleveland and Lake Erie is worth the... More

We toured the final resting place of President Garfield and his wife. They rest in the basement area. The entry way was also impressive as you look at his statue and the beautiful ceiling. Make your way up the stairs to the outside deck from where you can view the Cleveland skyline.

To be honest, I only stopped by the James A. Garfield National Historic Site to get a park stamp:) The national park system sells passport books that you can get stamps for at each and every park:) Been to sixty-three parks, this one was the FIRST that had no stamp. The gentleman at the counter was of little help:( Gave... More

We just happened to be attending a funeral service when we came across this monument. As I love my history, we had to investigate. It is really an amazing site as are many other monuments within this beautiful cemetery. When you're done just go down the hill and enjoy the tastes of Little Italy.

Grand belle epoch architecture set in Cleveland's most beautiful cemetery, which feels like a public park. Nice historic site.

My last visit to President Garfield's tomb was last November, the anniversary of his birthday, which is commemorated every year. There was a ceremony including military officers which I had never observed in my previous visits. This impressive memorial was built with voluntary donations in memory of the second assassinated president, who had the second shortest term of office and... More
