We thought this was more like a house like the Kelton House, but were disappointed to find out most of the items are replicas, not originals. We didn't know who Thurber was so it was a bit confusing. We watched the video which is slightly poor quality and then the kind gentlemen took us around. There really wasn't much of... More

But, in Columbus for work meetings from a 3 1/2 hour drive away, I was eager to see the Thurber house and delayed my return trip until after 1 PM when the house was scheduled to open. But, when I arrived at 1:30 on Sunday afternoon, the house was completely locked up. Three very pleasant high school students were also... More

As a lifelong fan of Mr. Thurber's work, I was delighted to visit the house where the bed fell, electricity leaked from the outlets, and the dog that bit people once lived. While the furnishings are not actually Thurber's, the house is restored to the style of Thurber's time there as a child. Unlike most museums and historical sites, the... More

The Thurber house is a free admission into the 1919 home of the Thurber family. The docent was very friendly and devoted to the memory of the Author. In James Thurber's bedroom closet there are signatures of all the great writers who have come to see the home of the Great Humorist of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The... More

On a Monday afternoon the front door was closed but unlocked. We entered and it appeared empty so I asked loudly "anyone here" and a student appeared and told us the procedure, showed us a video about Thurber then disappeared. The tour is on your own, but can be guided if one asks. Inexpensive metered parking.

We had such a great time at the Thurber House! The self-guided tour through the lovely old house was interesting (lots of good information in the rooms, as well), and the bits of writing and Thurber's drawings throughout the museum made us laugh out loud as we took our time wandering through. One of the folks who works there also... More

Interesting little house, more appealing if you know and like James Thurber. There is a brief video, a self-guided tour, and small gift shop.

We haven't read any of his works, so everything about him was new to us. The little museum they have set up in the one room gives a nice overview of his life and books. There are signs in each of the rooms to let you know how it was used and lots of references to Thurber's art and books.... More
