Wonderful Unexpected Stop

Wonderful stop on the Ring Of Kerry. Stop here, stretch your legs and grab a cup of tea. Another amazing house with a lot of history.

Despite being English, we enjoyed our trip into Irish history and the O'Donnell family. Relatively few rooms are available to view, but the history is interesting but the gardens less so. We enjoyed an excellent tea and cake in the cafe.

We stopped in here on a misty day along the Ring of Kerry. The tour of the house gives an interesting history of Daniel O'Connell's life and likewise some Irish history. We did not have the opportunity to walk the gardens, but we did enjoy the chapel and carriage areas. I would recommend this stop particularly when the weather is... More

Derrynane House has been very tastefully restored, and the ladies at the house were incredibly helpful and informative. Our group of 5 got to watch the video and take the tour of the house. We had plenty of questions, and we were given all the time we wanted and a most friendly welcome. The tour and video give you lots... More

Did not do the house tour as I had my dog with me but had a lovely walk through the gardens which are magnificent. Dogs are allowed on leads. Lovely fairy trail for children in the gardens. The coffee shop is worth a visit too with very friendly staff. Weather was good enough that we were able to sit outside... More

The house and grounds and the beach are wonderful. The exhibitions are so interesting. the old carriage is fabulous but you could easily miss it as it is not that well sign posted. the cafe is excellent with gorgeous scones with cream and jam. I highly recommend this house there is something for everyone.

This was well worth the visit. The house and grounds have been well maintained and restored. There us a short film on life of statesman Daniel O'Connel who successfully pushed for Catholic emancipation and later repeal of Act of Union (not successful ). There are several short walks of the house and grounds. Irish Heritage visitors pass is well worth... More

The gardens are wonderful, even if you don't visit the house. Cake in the tea room was lovely. The staff in the house are very knowledgeable and passionate but I have to say, I didn't enjoy the video. I felt it didn't do enough to show the significance of what Daniel O Connell achieved at the time. The house is... More

On the ground floor there are two main rooms and a 45 seat cinema, that tells the story of Daniel O'Connell's life condensed down to ten minutes in length. Upstairs there are more rooms. This doesn't sound a lot, but once you watch the film and know the history of the house, it is all rather special. The highlight for... More

I have a very special interest in Derrynane as I work as a Tour Guide in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin where Daniel O'Connell is laid to rest in Ireland's most elegant funeral vault. Anne-Marie and her colleagues in Derrynane looked after us really well. The Tour of the House is very interesting. In the house I particularly liked the portraits... More
