We came here at the end of our visit to Svalbard, which meant that we'd already heard quite a lot about the history of the place. Nevertheless, the museum still provided a lot of information that went into much more detail than our tour guides...More

If you travel to Longyearbyen, you would be remiss to skip the Svlabard Museum. It is the storehouse of information about Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen Island, Svalbard as a whole archipelago, and northern Arctic life. The displays are tasteful, informative, and enjoyable. The small gift shop/book store...More

No shoes are allowed inside. "Second"-hand (gross) clogs are provided. No bags are allowed inside. Most of the explanations are in Norsk. Rude staff. Small museum.

The museum is modern and gives a good representation of life in Svalbard, wildlife, mining and development of this arctic town. Most presentations have English and the story is well told of life since the development began in the area.

I found this museum very interesting. Learning about the history of the town with great photographs and exhibits. Well worth a visit. I especially liked the information about some of the residents who live there now.

This museum has some very unique items and an interesting story to tell. Unfortunately, due to Svalbard's short history, the museum is likewise quite small.
