We did the tour up the lighthouse which takes around 30 minutes. Its worth it to hear the history of both the lighthouse and the local area so worth the £8 admittance. Its around 120 steps up (90 then another narrower section) and you get good views across the area.

A visit to a lighthouse wouldn't be my normal thing to do but this is a great way to break up the day. Excellent views, a lovely welcoming lady on reception and knowledgeable (but nice) guide Tim. Definitely worth a visit.

It was a positive experience, with lots to ponder about afterwards. I think it is especially interesting how a lighthouse works. I definitely recommend this to families with children over five- so they can appreciate the importance of a lighthouse.

We just missed the start of the 11am tour and were kindly allowed to catch up. Entry was £11 for one adult and 2 children. The views from the top were fantastic and our guide Annie was lovely, especially to my son who became very unsure of the final ascent (up a nearly vertical set of stairs). A lovely thing... More

After many trips and stays in Southwold, we found ourselves there at a time the lighthouse was open. The visit was very informative, fascinating to hear the history of the area and the views were brilliant. Although I do have to agree with a previous reviewer that the windows either needed cleaning. Or allowing responsible people outside, as the photos... More

We have visited Southwold on numerous occasions and, as yet, have never ascended the Southwold Lighthouse. After an excellent lunch we walked to the lighthouse and, having missed the 2pm tour we booked on the 2.30pm. Walking up the 92 steps to the 'first floor' we were given a five minute rest and given useful and informative information before ascending... More

Would recommend a visit to the lighthouse - amazing views and interesting history! My 5 year old son coped with the stairs with no issues! Good idea to arrive when it opens to secure tickets as it does get busy!

It's a hefty hike to the top as you might imagine but on a clear day the views from the top of the lighthouse are well worth it.

On a clear day this has got to be the best views from Southwold and well worth the visit. It's not open all year round and I would recommend that you contact Tourist information for their opening times. There are many steps to climb and there are restrictions for young children. It's a must do!!
