Margate old town is lovely to wander around for the narrow streets, squares, alleyways and varied and beautiful architecture. There are lots of pubs, cafes, art galleries, gift shops, vintage shops.....BUT don't bother coming on a Monday as almost all of the shops are closed all day.

Visited here for the first time on Monday. A charming old seaside town with many bars and restaurants to offer. Beautiful views and a lovely clean beach. Shame about the ugly concrete block of flats though.

Love it. The shops are amazing. So many vintage/antique shops to mooch about in. Just brilliant. Highly recommend a visit to Margate if you are into your vintage wear.

If you like the vintage and antique scene then go here. Cool shop and cafes to browse that don't cost the earth. Really cool if you're a hipster.

This is the best part about Margate, I love going down here to sunbathe on the Kings steps and also have a look around all the small and independent shops its so nice to see Margate being great again, the old kent market is also a must to visit with a double decker bus restaurant selling the best burgers.

Margate Old Town is a wonderful place to lose a few hours without noticing they've gone. I like to start off with a visit to the Turner Contemporary, possibly the best free show in Kent, although a donation is always welcome. After a pleasant hour browsing the latest exhibition, then stroll over to the Old Town and get lost in... More

Margate Old Town is now an extremely vibrant and enjoyable place to visit. Too much to mention, but mix of eateries, bars, antique and collectable shops, art galleries and shops.

It looks as though the area is being 'done up' but the 'old town' seems to only comprise a few streets, not many interesting shops and lacking in atmosphere (although it was raining!). Hope it continues to develop.

Margate is obviously a town of two halves, as a lot of English seaside towns are. But if you are a tourist looking for an authentic seaside experience with some history and local flavour then Margate is definitely worth a trip. It is easy to get to from London by car or train and has a lot of character, history,... More

What a difference in a few years this was a neglected part of Margate with empty shops but now it is a thriving little place with lots of interesting places to look at or eat well done Margate for getting something right
