Brilliant! And very cheap for all that is there. Volunteers are all very knowledgable & friendly. Most interesting / favourite part...? Old beach stuff, or maybe local boats & shipping history, world war 1 & ll sections were great too, lots of local names / places / info was very interesting... oooo, the crime info was great, liked the displays... I had a free ticket to visit last Sunday and I am glad I used it. The building itself has a quirky layout - it was originally a police station and a magistrates' court. The museum itself is small but there is a lot of stuff on display - I learnt a lot about Margate which I didn't know just... More

Came here on a Sunday afternoon, spent about 1 hour here. It is not a huge museum but it has lot;s of interesting local memorabilia, well worth a visit. The staff (all volunteers) are very knowledgeable, really friendly and only too happy to talk to visitors. Local and WW2 memorabilia all set in the old court house and police station,... More

Discovered this gem of a museum on a wet Sunday afternoon. Didn't think it would be open but, luckily, it was and what an unexpected pleasure. For the bargain entrance fee of £1.50 we were treated to a personal guided tour of the ground floor exhibits by Ian who entertains with a fund of stories and knowledge. Some exhibits are... More

Visited the museum on a wet and windy day. The entrance fee of just £1.50 is brilliant as it is only a small museum. it is sited in the old police station so you can look inside a cell and upstairs there is a mock up of a court room. There is a lot of information about the history of... More

This is a little gem hidden away in Margate Old Town, full of fascinating facts and History of the area, only £1.50 admission and for another £1.00 you can also visit another Historic gem The Tudor House, excellent value for money!

A friend and I were visiting Margate for the day and I had seen this on a brouchure so we decided to pay a visit. At £1.50pp this is possibly one of the cheapest museums you will ever visit, and we got a personal guided introduction to boot! There was a lovely lady giving everybody who visited an overview of... Be aware that you're going to be told a story or two before you even get through the door. And then more stories when you are downstairs...and more stories upstairs. There's loads to see, social history of Margate overlapping with London and the steamship day trips popular in the early 20th century. I took an 80 year old with me... More

An hour or so well spent! Tremendous variety of exhibits from seaside memorabilia to iron age relics. The building itself has plenty of history (two exhibitions are in the old prison cells!) and the staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. A real asset to the town and well worth a visit - and not only on a rainy day!
