The Southern Queen is an interesting boat built in 1935. The trip down the river was longer than I expected and more industrial than you would think. Captain Colin is very knowledgeable about the river and explains its history well, particularly its use during WW1 and the change in the channel due to long shore drift. When you reach the... More

We were visiting Sandwich from Deal for the Food Fayre and decided to book a seal-watching river trip on the Southern Queen with Captain Colin as part of our day. So glad we did! Two idyllic and fascinating hours in the sunshine on the meandering Stour to beautiful Pegwell Bay and back, with the most brilliant and fascinating commentary from... More

I imagine trying to book this in advance might prove tricky. We just turned up about half an hour before and spoke with Captain Colin. Had a quick coffee and returned in time to get a good seat on the side and a cushion to sit on. Despite the lovely weather on Easter Saturday, you really do need a warm... More

This trip has been on our days out list for a few years and with the recent burst of sunny weather we booked and went along. Sandwich is well worth a day out and the tripmon the river bus is the icing on the cake! The tour took about 3 hours and its worth taking a coat or spare jumper... More

My partner and I had seen and heard of the Sandwich Riverbus tour and eagerly awaited a warm day in order to come on board. After having enquired the day before, we booked ourselves onto the 11:30AM slot. When we arrived the following day, we were slightly disappointed by how many people there was allowed onto the boat. Admittingly, we... More

I booked the river bus as a charter so our group could be alone , no smokers vapours or kids! It was a Shame small tug boat busy so we had the big boat for just us!!! ( wonderful) Colin is very knowledgable and did a good commentary ! He took us down the river to the open sea ,... More

During a weekend in Kent, primarily attending the Chatham Laurel & Hardy Convention, we also visited Ramsgate & Deal. I had not been to Deal since the long, hot summer of 1976 to visit relatives & remember Eastry, Ham & Sandwich as being particularly beautiful. Both of us are keen wildlife enthusiasts & a quick 'google' of Trip Advisor whilst... More

it was a lovely autumn day when we set off but I wish I had worn a warmer coat , its colder out on the river, though if you sit near the engine housing you get some heat off the funnel. As the boat moves downstream the Stour widens as it passes the old Pfizer buildings until you can see... More

The seals at Pegwell Bay have become quite famous in recent years and this is a good way to see them close up. The owner/ captain is mildly eccentric in a good way. The journey to get to the seals is longer and more industrial than you might imagine. You will see some historic features and plenty of seabirds before... More
