Apart from the lovely Norman tower, not much to look at from outside but once inside -- ah! well........Beautiful simple "plain" windows fill the interior with light and show glimpses of graceful trees outside. Interesting architecture, medieval floor tiles, wonderful tower arches[ superb fpr concerts] and fascinating choir stalls. A real treasure and not to be missed ! Delightful churchyard[... More

St Clement's was originally Saxon, but a rebuild in Norman times survives in the really interesting tower. Lovely site also.

Sometime ago I had my fathers family tree professionally done. We had always thought that our roots were firmly grown in the East End of London. How delighted we were to discover that many of our ancestors originated from Sandwich and Deal where a number of them were Shipwrights. My father has since passed away and I have been meaning... We chanced upon St Clements, having followed the water's edge along from the Bell Hotel. St Clements did not have a function on, instead it was empty, but had literature & signs outside inviting guests to enter and look around. Inside there was a few pews and tables set up, but for the most part the church was empty; and... More

Popped in as curious about the square tower in the centre of the church. Met by local who was looking after the church's visitors. He provided a popped history and told us why the tower was as it was. Interesting local church restored with heritage lottery money.

I have visited this pretty, full of character church many times. I have also had the privilege of singing here in the past with my choir. If you are in Sandwich and this church is open, pop in for a look around; it's lovely.

This delightful church is set in a wonderful and old churchyard and close to the centre of town. There were staff on site when I went yesterday and they were helpful and there were brochures available about the church too. There is a road with free parking (for an hour) behind the church and from this area you can walk... More
