The Exmoor pony is one of the oldest native pony breeds in Britain and yet...

The Exmoor pony is one of the oldest native pony breeds in Britain and yet is currently listed as an endangered rare breed. Around 3,500 ponies survive worldwide, of which about 350 still live free on Exmoor. The Moorland Mousie Trust, based at the Exmoor Pony Centre, is a small charity working to promote and conserve these very special ponies. The Exmoor Pony Centre is open daily (except Saturdays) from 10 am to 4 pm between the Easter holidays and 31st October, with restricted opening times for the rest of the year. Entrance to the Exmoor Pony Centre is free of charge, although donations to our work are always welcome. The Exmoor Pony Centre invites visitors to come and meet our ponies and learn more about this special breed. If you wish to ride an Exmoor pony, the Centre offers two options. Our three-hour Exmoor Experience trek is for competent riders, with a discretionary minimum age of 11 years old. Alternatively we offer one hour Taster sessions in our indoor arena for those with less experience. There is a weight limit of 12 stone/75 kg for riding the ponies. Visitors to the Centre can meet the ponies and learn about their history and their life on the moor. Refreshments and toilet facilities are available as well as a pony-themed shop. Regular events are held at the Exmoor Pony Centre throughout the year. We also cater for group visits, corporate days and birthday parties (generally out of high season) so please contact us if you would like to hold your event at the Exmoor Pony Centre. For more information please have a look at our our website.

It's a bit out of the way but well worth finding as the work done there to protect and promote the delightful Exmoor pony is superb. It would be easy to visit without realising the hard work and dedication from just 2 members of staff and a small (very small) army of volunteers keeping the ponies happy, healthy well fed.... More

My daughter has wanted to ride an Exmoor Pony in a trek across Exmoor for many many years and was finally old enough to do it. She rode the lovely Fleeter, who she got to know by grooming and tacking him up before heading out. In the trek she did walk, trot, canter and gallop across different environments and land... More

I was fortunate to ride out on the moor for the 3 hour trek. Riding an Exmoor on Exmoor was great! The weather was kind so the views were superb. Highly recommend a visit.

We booked our 8 year old daughter, who is experienced with ponies in to clean and ride a pony. When we found it (don't rely on sat nav!) the ladies who work there were very warm and welcoming. They take great care of the ponies and are very friendly. They groomed a pony with our daughter and then two of... More

Anyone visiting the area should pop to this wonderful place. We recently enjoyed a lovely afternoon while my daughter did a 1 hour taster session (which costs £30 & is highly recommended).

Well this place was a lot small than we had thought! Its quite a drive up there and yes we were a little disappointed! Its quite run down and very little to see i think we saw just three ponys whilst we were there... The staff are friendly and chatted to us and the children about the ponys. The shop... More

We are sorry that you found your visit to the Exmoor Pony Centre disappointing. As a charity with limited resources we are aware that there is always room for improvement and have already added further information displays and a refurbishment in early 2016. We are sorry that you only saw three ponies, this is very surprising, we do ensure as... More

We booked a taster session for our daughters (4 and 7) as I had realised it isn't a large attraction and they would wonder why we had travelled so far for not much. Even though we have ponies at home, this was a lovely relaxed environment to groom a pony and have a lead rein session in their indoor arena,... More

My sister and niece visited a few days ago for what was billed as a group experience, but were the only two booked on for that session, so they had the full attention of the staff and volunteers. We were a little late getting there because the road was closed between Tiverton and Dulverton, so we had had to make... More

Yet another lovely time with the Ponies. My wife rode out with Kestra and Alison.one of the band of volunteers. We stay on Exmoor on a regular basis and the Pony centre is usually our first port of call. Would really recommend a visit no matter what your age. Great for children ,parents and grandparents.
