We, three families, visited on Easter Sunday. There was an Easter Egg Hunt which the children liked. I really enjoyed the visit, and I think you have to keep in mind that this is a collection put together in the beginning by one single couple. The collection encompasses tractors, "iron horses", and much more things typical of rural life through... More

Visited for the afternoon, first time visitors. There was a steam toy exhibition on whilst we were there which was enjoyable with a good number of exhibitors. However a lot of the collection and exhibits has aged and there was a lot of dust and rusty objects. I understand with a place run by volunteers it's not always easy to... More

The Rural Life Centre provides an eclectic but fascinating collection of old buildings of different sizes and kinds in a lovely setting of grassland and trees. There is something for all ages and the appeal just as great if you recognise something from your own life which suddenly seems to have become history, as if you are seeing it for... More

We were lucky we went on a Wednesday. Not only were the exhibits fascinating, but the volunteers were also very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to pass on their passions. The story of moving Deeks cycle shop, with all its tools, woodblock floors and smells, was wonderful. There are plenty of activities for children, which is fortunate, because grandparents are so... So much has improved at this unique museum. You really feel as if you have stepped back decades into a world now mainly forgotten. Great for all ages. There is a small souvenir shop and a reasonably priced cafe too.

Perfect for all the family and a great way to explain what many things were like when grandparents were young. Plenty of room to run around too. Many 'special' days in the summer to add extra interest but you can easily spend a couple of hours here on ordinary days. Check opening times, especially in winter.

Went here for one of the special fun Thursdays that the museum site holds throughout the year. Our two grandchildren (4 and 8) have been pressing to go back since our last visit and lived this second visit to the rural life museum. There was much to do on the day with the activities from making casts of fossils to... More
