Native Americans built this in ancient times as an astronomical device. The circle is quite large and takes up a lot of space in the town. Go on a nice day to see and take a walk.

For those who are interested in viewing a small portion of how intelligent and architecturally wise the early Americans were. This is a small portion of a much larger complex stretching hundreds of miles. There are more sites near by.

In addition to the mounds and informative signs, this park was home to some of the most beautiful trees I've seen in the Midwest

We visited in the middle of the day. It was beautiful and sunny, and very pleasant to walk all around. (You can't walk on the mounds, however.) We visited the small information center/museum, and found it very informative. I would recommend stopping in here first....More

This is another site of the Hopewell Culture. Built 2000 years ago it is preserved in a local park. The circle encloses 30 acres and was probably used for ceremony and funeral rituals. It is well worth a stop. Further information is found at the...More
