This was a nice quick detour over the holiday weekend. It is attractive and near the Great Lakes Mall (or similar title). Interesting buildings, phone tours available.

This is a great gem of a place. A self made man, last log cabin President, rock star of politics, death was more grieved than Lincoln's, and an incredible wife, Lucretia. Tour wonderful, tour guide, Barbara was just terrific. Spent two great hours and could...More

It is $7 for an adult admission, or free with a National Park Service seniors pass. The name of the estate is Lawnfield, named by the reporters during the presidential campaign of 1880. Garfield moved his family here from Hiram in 1876 while he was...More

My husband and I are big fans of national park units, so we thought we'd check this one out...boy are we glad we did! Definitely pay for the tour (if you have the annual national park pass, it's free). The house is truly beautiful and...More

I grew up in Mentor in the 1960's but never stopped by "Lawnfield" until only recently. Well worth the visit. Beautifully restored home and grounds. Learned a lot about local history. Never realized that the train stopped just to the north and passengers could walk...More

This is another beautiful historic house. We had a great tour guide who was informative without spending too much time. The house is interesting in that it was added to so it isn't your typical layout. The grounds are nice as well and we had...More

Make a special trip if need be to this National Park! Outstanding information at Visitors Center and terrific tour of this former President's Home. Nearly 90% of everything in the home are original artifacts and furnishings of the family. Just a fabulous landmark. Unlike the...More

This is a great historical site to learn about James Garfield, his short presidency, and his life. Unfortunately we had the most overbearing tour guide I have ever encountered at a National Historic Site. The guide said little about the 20th president, his political career,...More

About a half hour depending on traffic. You will also be in Mentor, Ohio. The Garfield residence is very close to the Mentor Mall and tons of shopping and restaurants.

I would plan on at least two hours. The house tour is docent led, thus time controlled, but then time to linger on the grounds and in the museum are also needed. Don't miss the film.
