Excellent small museum. Lots of Great Lakes related items. Friendly staff. We became members. Lots of parking. Located on the lakeshore next to the Sandusky Sailing Basin

There is lots of history of the area in this museum. Be sure to see the movie. This would be a great place not only for adults but also for children. There are lots of hands on activities and interactive games on computers.

Overall it was a neat place but very small. It was a cool reminder of the nautical history of Lake Erie.

This museum contained a lot of history of the area and especially its relationship to Lake Erie. There was also some information on the Underground Railroad which was in the area.

We stopped in on a rainy day to see all of the interesting items. The museum is on one floor and is able to be viewed by everyone. An interesting hands on activity is trying to cut the ice with a saw! Our granddaughter had a hard time trying to cut it but we all had a new appreciation for... More

It was International Museum Day so we stopped here as part of our museum-hopping. Various exhibits from pirates to various types of ships to the Underground Railroad. All on one floor so very handicapped accessible. Bring your camera. There's a gift shop with various souvenirs, most were reasonably priced. Staff was very friendly as well :) Not sure if there... Learned a lot about how big the fish and ice industry was back in the Ohio day. A very nice museum. Be sure and find the little theatre inside and sit and watch the video. Well worth the stop. Husband was so mesmerized by a display that included a steel mouth trap used for nagging wives that he took a... More

Chose Sandusky since it had good restaurants, a nice B&B and the Maritime museum with a special event for the holidays. On line it says holiday hours, on the area's tourist website it... More

Take the time to stop in and see this museum. Great for the whole family. Super place to visit on a rainy day instead of Cedar Point

I frequently will skip the movie in a museum. This one was really interesting. It described the history of the area, beginning with fishing and all of the industry that grew from that. The museum was not large, but exhibits were great - many were interactive. They gave us kits for the kids to make wooden ships. Don't miss the... More
