This is the village where my ancestors settled. My father's family were original members of the Zoar Society and owned the Assembly House for many, many years. I place to see, learn and adore.

The buildings in the area had such character and was a step back it time. Staff were eager to explain the workings of each building. Everything was well maintained. The garden had some beautiful flowers. I was a little disappointed with the size of the location. Many of the historic homes are actually private residences. I still felt like this... More

All of the ladies provided information that was interesting and fun. Everyone was particularly friendly and helpful. All of the information we learned about the settlement gave us greater insight to life in the Commune there in the 1800's.

We only had an hour and a half to visit, so we did what we could: went to the store and little museum, and took the first part of the tour. The guide was good, the exhibits interesting and informative. The place is just as I'd remembered it from an earlier visit (during GOBA) a couple of decades earlier. It's... More

Interesting history of a small group seeking religious freedom on the frontier. We arrived a couple of minutes after 3 and found that tours were over for the day. We were accommodated as well as possible by charging us half price and directing us to a person who gave us a very informative and complete tour of one house and... More

Find the docents who are over 50 and you'll learn lots about the failed religious society of the 1800's. The one young lady we encountered failed to give us our arm bands and knew next to nothing but the lady at the creamery and the lady at the bakery were excellent. This place has great potential and if they had... More

My visit was great. We visited Zoar cemetery beforehand and I loved learning about Zoar's burial history. The ghost tour was great, adding history in with the spooky experience.

This is another local history lesson. Zoar was a communist community. But not like what you maybe thinking. they were a group of German settler's that felt they could do better by working together and sharing their lively hood as well as their abilities. They banded together to provide for their community to work to pay off their debt for... More

We have been to Zoar in the past but always on our way somewhere else. We finally took the time to see what it was all about. So glad we did. Walking through the little town you learn so much about the history of the town and the people that founded it. The struggles they incurred and the way the... More
