Decided to go as it was on our way back home on a roadtrip, just to bag another high point. We didn't have great expectations but it ended up being one of our favorite hikes and it wasn't very challenging either. Would love to hike it again on another trip. We brought our 2 dogs with us and they had... More

A group of friends and I decided to end the summer camping season with a bang and venture out to the highest point in the state. We planned months out to visit Black Mesa and spend a few days hiking and exploring the area. This review is specific to the state park, I've left a second review of the actual... More

Very nice and very surprised how much wildlife we saw! Beavers, large variety of birds, pronghorns, etc. Very nice camp spots near Lake Etling. Very well kept, clean state park! Even has a small section of petrified wood. Went in September and very pleasant temperatures. Would definitely recommend for anyone passing through this area!

I have lived my whole life without seeing see the Black Mesa State Park, and finally made a point to stop by on our way to Colorado. Loved the countryside and isolation. You can't believe you are in Oklahoma!!!

Black Mesa State Park is a beautiful area, but one thing mars it: the street lights in the camping area. This whole area of the Oklahoma panhandle offers one some of darkest star filled night skies in the country. It is a mecca for star gazers and astronomy enthusiasts from across the nation and world and hosts one of the... More

Black Mesa is the high point of Oklahoma, located about 5 miles north of Kenton, OK. The hike is around 8 miles round trip and takes around 3 -4 hours depending on your fitness. Hike early and take plenty of water since it can be very hot in the summertime. The view isn't spectacular at the high point itself, but... More

Spent a couple of nights at Black Mesa state park in June, 2016. The park is small but nice. Visited the Black Mesa Preserve which is about 5 miles north and west of the park camping area. Hiked to the black mesa summit, the highest point in Oklahoma. Took over 4 hours. View from the top isn't much, but some... More

The relatively small number of visitors to this far-flung state park, coupled with the stark scenery and enveloping serenity make a visit to the Black Mesa an absolute must if you're passing through. If you're headed to the area, be sure to stop in Boise City, OK or Clayton, NM for gas and supplies - you won't find any gas... More
