Cool national park. There are a few places you can go here. Not as huge as seqouia. Good place to go to for trails during the spring summer and good place to go to for snow boarding skiing snow play etc in the winter.

Pretty and free to explore, you can't go wrong with driving through this lovely national forest. There are lots of little places to pull over and park (and outhouse style toilets too) and several very easy walking trails even if you aren't an experienced hiker. My friend and I aren't outdoorsy at all and we didn't have proper footwear, but... More

So beautiful and so much to see and do. This is a definite drive to do, but it can't be done in a day and see everything.

It's the main reason I moved here in 1969. It never gets old visiting all the rivers ,lakes, mountains, parks, camp grounds, and all the attractions that make central Oregon unique. Summer and winter activities abound, it's really special!

The Deschutes National Forest is a prime destination for nordic skiers and snowshoers every winter, and my favorite place close to Bend is Virginia Meissner Sno-Park. I've been cross-country skiing here since the 1980s and the trail system is excellent. The Meissner Nordic Ski Club grooms trails for skate and classic skiing five days a week (Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday,... More

TripAdvisor needs to break this out to activities within the forest. That said, this is one of the best NF areas in the west. Hundreds of miles of well-mapped trails for all-season activity. Different areas are, at least locally, known to be appropriate for different activities. Example: Phil's Trails for mountain-biking, versus the Deschutes River Trail for long runs. Ask... More

Huge place, and every place we drove through was gorgeous. Loved the mountain scenery. Very well maintained. Keep your camera on hand because there are lots of vistas to photograph. We tried to go to Paulina's Peak twice one week, but it was closed. A bit treacherous if the snow hasn't been scraped off the road though, so you find... More

This is a huge National Forest and from the little we saw of it, definitely a place worth exploring. Gorgeous scenery and great hiking.

Really enjoyed this place. We took advantage of the paved bike trails. Also did the hike to Benham falls. Fairly short hike over easy terrain. The falls/Rapids were awe inspiring. Highly recommend.
