Great one hour loop drive. Stop at Simpson Reef to see elephant seals, seal lions and harbor seals. Beautiful rocky coast views.

Try to get there at low tide and check out the tide pools and then sit back, relax and watch the sun set and the tide roll in crashing over the nearby off shore rocks. Even got to see some local whales.

The lighthouse is located on Chiefs island and not reachable. The lighthouse has been turned over from the Coast Guard to a local tribe. There are numerous places you can shoot it from though. But do not tresspass on private land without the owners permission. .

Its possible to view the lighthouse, but a more beautiful view is from the end of the Cape Argo road. The Cape Argo State Park is more a large viewpoint with picnic tables, trails and gorgeous view of the coastline. From the parking area you can hear sea lions and seals barking. A trail down leads to a viewpoint. On... More

This is at the end of the road about 5 miles after passing through Charleston. The views to the north and south along the coast can't be beaten. It is also a fantastic place to watch the sun go down when the weather permits.

Cape Arago Lighthouse is one of the few on the Oregon Coast where you can’t get a close-up view. It’s south of the entrance to Coos Bay on an island surrounded by a fence. The island’s shape is portrayed as a bony fist with an index finger pointing northward. It steep sides are now eroding into the sea. Views and... More

Great, calendar or postcard quality views from several locations around the Lighthouse, even though you cannot actually, physically get to the lighthouse yourself. Well worth hiking the trails just south to get some special views and the beach, Lighthouse Beach, adjacent on the south is wonderful to visit and great for surfing.

The Cape Arago Lighthouse is actually on Chief's Island, just offshore near Sunset Bay. Originally, a bridge connected Chief's Island to the mainland but it collapsed in 2012. The island was returned to the Coos Indian tribe with the agreement it would be accessible to the public in the future, but first the severe erosion problems on the island (because... More

This is beautiful lighthouse. Unfortunately there is no public access. You can view it from a turn off from the main road or as some say by a short hike.
