Considered the largest sea cave in the United States, this site is where Steller sea lions and their cubs take shelter each year. Sea Lion Caves is a privately owned wildlife preserve and bird sanctuary. The Caves has been in operation since 1932 preserving and protecting the wildlife under our care. We are open 363 days a year only closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving day. Our normal hours of operation are 9 am until dusk year round. We are not a zoo and the animals are free to come and go as they please. The sea lions can usually be found at either of four locations on the property; in the Cave, in the water, at the Lookout/rockery, and on other nearby rock ledges. HOWEVER, THE SEA LIONS ARE NOT ALWAYS IN THE CAVE OR MAY BE MIGRATING OUT OF AREA - THEY ARE WILD ANIMALS AND COME AND GO AS THE PLEASE. CALL AHEAD FOR INFORMATION. Self-guided are the rule, but guided tours are available.

I would recommend skipping the Sea Lion Caves and going directly to Newport, where can see lots of sea lions for free!

The gift shop was nice, but we couldn't see the sea lions because it was too foggy. The cave was neat, but the price is a little high to see a cave when the sea lions weren't even there at the time.More

Thank you for visiting Sea Lion Caves. Because we are on the Oregon Coast, we have a variety of weather. In fact, there are days that we may have several different types of weather. No two guest experiences are the same at Sea Lion Caves....More

There were hundreds of sea lions in the cave in January. So loud and fun! It was the best time to enjoy the sea lions.

We paid $13 to enter. A short flight of stairs later we were walking down a ramp to the observation point. The sea lions were far down the hill, however it is a great view and you could hear them talking. There were many of...More

Thank you for visiting Sea Lion Caves. Because we are an all-natural wildlife preserve and marine sanctuary, none of the animals are held in captivity and all are free to come and go as they please. There are times of the year when we may...More

Although the sea lions were out of their cave during our stop this quaint spot in Florence Oregon offers the opportunity to view the animals from a cave accessible by elevator from the gift shop. A bit pricey (fourteen dollars for adults) it does offer...More

Amazing how the sea lions ride a wave into the cave and use it to boost them onto the rocks. Also the cave provides a great view of the Heceta Head Lighthouse. Their web site has a complete weather station read out. A family fun...More

This is a place where one views the sea lions in their natural habitat. So, don't expect to get close to them because they are wild animals. For their well-being, it is better we see them from a distance as often we don't usually know...More

I'm siggest low tide. When it's low tide, more sea lions will be gathered on the rocks below the lookout and also lying on the rocks in the caves. Hope this information helps!
