Amazing boardwalk through Wildlife refuge. Lots of things to view, gorgeous moss, ferns, and trees. Not many creatures viewable on the day we visited, but I'm sure on our return trips we will see some great animals; many nesting spots viewed.

A great area for wildlife viewing and pictures. They have a very nice boardwalk and lots of pull outs and viewing areas around the refuge. One of our favorite places for wildlife photography in the area. Make sure to bring water and snacks.

Great birding all year, excellent in spring and fall. Nice short hikes or you can use your binoculars from the car.

Somehow we had always managed to find the edges of this refuge, but never the heart of it, before this visit. We wanted a close-to-home place for walking outdoors, had new directions to the boardwalk, and off we went, in a heavy Oregon drizzle. The boardwalk wanders over the waters, under the trees, and brings you up close to bird... More

This is one of favorite spots to walk around at, that is close to home and very accessible most of the year. I know in the next couple years; they will be building a major visitor center for the Ankeny Refuge, to connect with all the major points of this fantastic refuge and when that is done; I can't wait... Not far off the freeway. Quiet. Pretty. Lots of trails but some are closed during the migratory season to avoid disturbing the birds.wevtook a long hike on a boardwalk back to some ponds with tons of frogs in them the heron back there sure was busy

Ankeny is one of a group of refuges in the mid-Willamette Valley. All are easily accessible from populated areas and wonderful places to explore. Trails are closed from October 1 until March 30, but there are plenty of spots to see a variety of wildlife. If bald eagles, songbirds and migratory waterfowl interest you, give Ankeny, Finley, and Baskett a... More

What a great place to take a stroll. Surprisingly few people there on a gorgeous sunny Saturday. Some families out for a walk, some serious bird watchers and couples out for a peaceful walk. Caution on the boardwalks, there are a couple of places that are a bit of a trip hazard, but mostly an easy walk. Off the boardwalk,... More

The green of spring, and birds calling. Singing, warbling, hooting and chirping. A symphony of sound which reminds us life can be simpler. And there are cycles to things. And if we stop and pay attention there it is. Our breath. Our motion. Our attention honed into the finest and most expansive moments in life. That's why I got to... More
