- LenPortland, Oregon2 contributionsThe Wallowa Lake Tramway was my favorite! Don't miss it!!This was hands down the best thing I got to do while I was in Joseph. It's a must!! I went on the very first day of the season (still lots of snow up there) and was still able to hike around at the top (in hiking shoes). The view is breathtaking -- figuratively and quite literally. I will definitely do this again when I'm back!!Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 24 May 2023
- Robynn Michelle7 contributionsWhat A Lovely Day!We went on the Big Foot ride with my 6 year old and my mom, the ride was a nice length, leisurely and you felt you got your bang for your buck without feeling too long. Took three hours I believe, the staff are so friendly and personable and overall just lovely human beings. We were surprised to find some bigfoot across the river, shaking sticks at us, running up and down the banks and fishing with a big stick. My daughter was ecstatic that she most definitely saw a rare Bigfoot. ;) The open air cars are really a treat, the scenery is gorgeous, the food was tasty and it was a very laid back and pleasant experience.Visited June 2023Written 12 June 2023
- Kathryn E4 contributionsFantastic AsdventureHiking at the top of Mount Howard was such an amazing experience! The views weee spectacular, both of the surrounding mountains, highlands, and prairies as well as the wildlife. We ate lunch at the Summit Grill - the food and drink weee spectacular! The ride up and down the mountain was fun and provided more breathtaking views. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone in the area. I’m terrified of heights, but the ride in the tram was not hard for me at all and was totally worth the amazing views at the top.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 2 July 2023
- Brian JPortland, Oregon163 contributionsA little spendy, but can't beat the viewI'm sure the overhead and upkeep is considerable on this aged tramway. Not very many people taking the trip to spread the cost. So it ends up being one of the most expensive activities at Wallowa Lake, but it's a required part of a complete visit. Once at the top, spend some time one the short hikes and at the cafe.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 2 July 2023
- PDXTimWest Linn, Oregon6 contributionsWorth Every Penny! We've never been to the Wallowa's before but we have taken tram rides in the past and they always seen to be a letdown. This one did NOT disappoint. $45 is steep for a ticket but it's not just a ride to a vantage point but a great little hike with unbelievable views of the mountains on one side and the lake and farm land on the other. We walked in snow, saw deer, had timber tiger encounters and saw some of the best views I've ever seen in the northwest and that is saying something! The little Summit Grill has decent food (go for the bbq pork sandwich and avoid the shrimp tacos) but it is very reasonable and the beers are only $6 bucks. This was all worth the money and was one of the best experiences I've had... totally surprised me!Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 July 2023
- Kate C3 contributionsBeautiful viewpoints! The cost of the tram ticket was definitely worth it for amazing views of the mountains from the 8,100 ft. summit of Mt. Howard. If you can, try to go on a clear day so you can see the Seven Devils peaks and appreciate the many other peaks surrounding Mt. Howard. The 2 mile loop at the top is relatively easy, although there are some places with a bit of an incline and one viewpoint with stairs, so hiking poles may be helpful for some people. There are also a few picnic tables to have a lunch or snack, and there is the Summit Grill restaurant, although that can get crowded. To save time, buy your ticket in advance online and then you can print out your confirmation or show the QR code. Wonderful experience!Visited June 2023Written 4 July 2023
- Elizabeth A7 contributionsBeautiful and unique experience in the Alps of OregonThe tramway staff were very friendly, the ride was so beautiful and worth every penny! We loved hiking above the tree line once up at the Mt Howard summit to see even more of the amazing mountain range. The wildflowers, butterflies, and wildlife were icing on the cake. The Summit Grill staff were great (recommend the refreshing Sangria on a hot summer day). Great experience and definitely will recommend to friends!Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 July 2023
- MaMeekerPrineville, Oregon11 contributionsAbsolutely must go!We purchased tickets in line and was very easy. Short lines at 1:00 ish in the afternoon. Friendly staff. Their is Hand-cap assistance. Clean restrooms at the summit. If you have a fear of hights this is NOT for you. No time limit to come back down. Lots of good groomed trails at the top. We did not eat or drink at the restaurant but must be good…. Had at least 45 minute wait. GORGEOUS VIEW!!Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 29 July 2023
- Bailey V1 contributionAmazingWallowa Lake Tramway is a must do when visiting Joseph, Oregon. The lift operators were friendly and personable. Ate at the Summit Grill as well. Staff was friendly, prices were reasonable, and service was great. 10/10 would recommend and will be back.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 31 July 2023
- Adamster3 contributionsDefinitely go!!Though I felt this venture was a bit pricey, we were more than pleased with the whole experience and didn't regret the expense! Though pretty warm in the gondola (we visited on August 1st and it was easily in the 80s at the bottom), the trip up was breathtaking and peaceful. Once on top, the temps were perfect and the views spectacular. Enjoyed the restaurant and refreshments that were very reasonably priced and, again, more than worth the time taken. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. If you're in this area and have the time, definitely take advantage of this attraction.Visited August 2023Written 2 August 2023

I am a local Pendletonian and brought my 3 east coast AF friends (Florida, Virginia & Maryland) here. We all loved it and got the giggles on our way down from nerves. We started a saying "I have a fear of...", laughed and got some great photos. I want to go back and hike the loop!

Even with a 40-degree end-of-September day, what a fabulous time! The views from the top of Mt Howard were phenomenal. We greatly enjoyed the 2.5-mile hiking trails on top. Our hot chocolate from the restaurant was delicious. Yep, I am fearful of trams but I did it and so can you! This was the “cherry on top” of an amazing stay at Wallowa Lake!

We thoroughly enjoyed the 3,700 foot climb from sub alpine pine trees to the snowy summit! We enjoyed lunch at the Summit Grill.! I walked the 2.5 mile trail, which was challenging with the wind, slushy snow and elevation. But, the views were spectacular!

The process was simple, the facilities are top notch, the people are friendly and helpful, and the views are incredible. The food was also a nice surprise - I expected maybe some sandwiches, but the menu has a really nice selection and was just icing on the cake.

Your journey starts in a small 4 seater gondola. The views are breath taking as you head on up the mountain. If u dont care for heights u may want to sit this out or sit in the gondola facing the mountain. There might be a couple of spots u will need to look at the floor. Once on top views are amazing. The Cafe was really good, staff super friendly and very reasonable.

Nice Gondola ride with great views. We walked all around , the scenery was breath taking ~ such a beautifully area! We saw beautiful birds up close and the adorable chipmunks were very friendly. We enjoyed a drink & snack at the restaurant. We would absolutely do this again next time we are in the area. Take time to enjoy all the views!

Well worth the price of the ticket! Just had knee surgery three weeks before this adventure but the hikes were doable and incredible. The pot roast lunch and the 3-berry cobbler were the perfect ending to a mountaintop experience!

Why is it so expensive? Almost cost as much to get into Silverwood!

I'm agreeing with the others here. I seriously considered saving the money--it came to something a bit over $100 for our group.
Then I marveled at how many towers this tramway has, the capital investment that is not defrayed by having downhill skiers in the winter.
Most importantly--it was just beautiful at the top. Great views, great memories for our family. This outweighed several lesser attractions in various places that would add up to more.

How long would you suggest budgeting for the tram and the beautiful hikes up top?

Ditto a lot of the previous answers. I was there early June and trails were all snowed in. No hiking for moi that day. Can't speak to the restaurant service and quality of food but I would pack your own food and drink and snacks. Camera and binoculars, too. Yes, easily 3-4 hours up there if trails are hikable now. Most of all, the toilets. They were NOT working, no water. They only had portable hand washing stands outside the restroom/restaurant area. Be warned and ask about this before you go up. Or, "empty out" before you ascend and plan your descent accordingly. Enjoy the views up there!!!
