Gorgeous views, but almost as quickly as we got out of the car to snap some pics and moved towards the sign discussing the overlook (which looked like it had been shot at) there were hundreds of tiny bugs that descended upon me that were all over my back, hair and no matter how much I flicked them off they came back... I literally was running around the overlook trying to get hundreds of little bugs off me and ran back to the car in a fury once it seemed most were off. Don't know if they were bugs that bite, but wasn't taking the chance since I was covered in them
Only because I was attacked did I down grade the rating.... views are gorgeous, but being attacked by bugs made it a VERY short visit

The viewpoint is easily accessible. It’s about 30 minute drive from Hood River. There is a 3 mile hike from this viewpoint with some great views as well. Be ready for a windy experience though!

If you are pulling a big rig or don't like curvy mountain roads, a drive up to Rowena Crest is not for you. Otherwise, it is a fun little drive with a spectacular reward at the top. Great views of the river while standing amidst a sea of flowers.

The views from here are breathtaking. This road is part of old Scenic Rt. 30 and easily missed. It is easy to find if you go to The Dallas and start there. It is not connected to the rest of Rt. 30 so we had not been there before. The road to the top is very scenic and has lots of curves and there is beauty around each curve. The Crest is just awesome. It seems you can see forever from the viewpoint. You can see Mt. Hood in OR, and Mt. Adams in WA. You can see miles down the Columbia River and the OR and WA banks.

We rented 10 speed e-bikes in Hood River (mostly for the peddle assist on the hills) and were so comfortable on them that we rode the 14 miles out all the way to Rowena Crest Viewpoint and then 14 miles back to town. First part of the route is a lovely ride through Memaloose State Park and the twin tunnels - largely shaded by forest trees, and appreciated the shade on a very hot summer day. The paved park trail had lots of walkers and other bicycle riders on a Sunday morning and the path is wide enough to accommodate all. After reaching Mosier, on the other side of the park, we turned onto Oregon historic Route 30, which is a two lane road with very little car traffic and many other bicycles. The overall ride is hilly, with a climb of over 2,000 feet, hence the pedal assist bikes. The views are absolutely stunning, especially those from Rowena Crest Point.

Nobody drives carefully in this stretch. There is a real danger of accident. We think the views are ok.

We decided to travel old us 30 from The Dalles to Mosier. The highlight of the drive was the Rowena Crest Viewpoint. The road getting up there was a little scary for our 45 foot rig “pick up truck & 24 ft trailer. The road was very narrow with drop offs on the river side and no guard rail in many sections but the view is spectacular. No words to describe it. Breathe taking. Very much worth the narrow winding roads of old Rt 30.

This is a cant-miss viewpoint while exploring this region of Oregon. It’s also a highly popular Instagram photo spot. We only had time to admire the views, but there are trails leading from the parking that look fantastic. If you have time, this is a great place to use it :)

We included Rowena Crest in our recent Columbia River Gorge trip. Just driving up from I-84 to the Crest is part of the experience. The view from the viewpoint is spectacular. Ahead of you is the mighty Columbia River flanked by highways on the Oregon as well as the Washington State sides. It was also exciting to see cargo trains pulling their wares along both sides of the river - very seldom do you get a chance to see all of this natural wonder and man-made inventions interacting in one panoramic setting. Below you from the viewpoint, is the old I-30 highway snaking it was down from the Crest to I-84 below. Driving that stretch of road is challenging but you should accept the challenge; it will long linger in your memory bank. There are lots of hiking opportunities above the Crest as well. This is well worth the visit.

I requested read several brochures in the process of planning our trip to Oregon and was impressed by the photos of Rowena Crest Viewpoint to such a degree that I made stopping there a priority. We were staying in Hood River and I combined the drive to the Crest with a visit to Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale, WA and The Dalles. To get to the viewpoint you drive up a long and winding road which overlooks the winding road you just drove, but it also offers another excellent vantage point to enjoy the Columbia Gorge.
