Haven't been here for several years - so this was a nostalgic pilgrimage to stroll the tall shelves of books. Expansive sections and variety, new and used. Picked up an Italian cook book and a book on touring Spain. (Restraint and a budget kept me from about six more books) A must-visit for any literate person visiting Portland.

Powell's Books is a place for anyone to visit, but it is especially a treat for anyone who loves books. Even if you only have 5 minutes ... Go in! If you have more time ... Take it. There are things for readers and non-readers of all ages.

So much to look at. It left nothing to be desired. Been there multiple times and still have not seen everything.

What a wonderful self treat is a visit to Powell's. The book selections are absolutely endless and if you are willing to take your time you can find real bargains among the used books. Shop carefully, because you can often find several price variances in looking at multiple used books of a specific title. You need time for a great... More

What a marvel for voracious readers. My teen and I spent hours here. So much inventory of both new and used books. We even found an old beloved novel we have searched high and low for. Selection is enormous and store is quirky in a great way. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Portland for a day or... More

This is a great, old fashion, real paper, Bookstore! This is the largest one I have ever seen. The building that is open to the public is 3 or 4 floors high and a city block long. They also have a mail order department in addition to this. They have many sales people on hand in each department. What is... More

Miles and miles of books! I don't think I've every been a book store so large and so extensive! Was able to pick up a few books for the grandkids as well as myself. Even bought a pint glass to remind me of the adventure. Make sure you have on your walking shoes!

No trip to Portland would be complete without the obligatory visit to Powell's City of Books and Voodoo doughnuts. While I could take or leave the doughnuts most trips (more of a nostalgic experience than excellence in doughnuts), I would never leave Portland without a quick tour of Powell's. The smell, the feel, the stairs and signs and stacks of... More

If you can't find something in Powell's then you must not be in the mood to shop. Books, calendars, gift items and souvenirs are plentiful. Great lounge areas and a coffee shop are available if you are waiting on someone or if you just need a break from your shopping.Be prepared to spend a couple of hours here and make... More
