My wife had visited five years ago and had really built up my expectations. There were a few (very few) real craftmen and artists exhibiting their works, but mostly it was a mish-mash of dangly earings, clever T-shirts, and essential oil pedlers. There were several mobile food vendors that were doing a brisk trade. Overall between the hastle of finding a decent parking place and dodging the various homeless camps around the river-front, I don't think I would reccomend going. The Farmer's Market at PSU is more entertaining and accessible.

We were happy to see that the market was up and operating. There were over 150 market vendors open when we were there. A wide variety of items available from jewelry to unusual Portland themed t-shirts/hoodies to locally made clothing and food items. There were also the expected range of food vendors on site. While there are plenty of standard vendors with mid range fare there are also plenty of more unusual offerings as well.

I have to be honest about two things. The first is that I was *really* looking forward to strolling through the Saturday Market with my husband. I had such nice memories of my first trip through the market with my friends, oh so many years ago. It was one of the things on my "to do" list that I'd actually planned around.

The second is that I felt a bit of shame after our visit, in that I'd built the market up to be this magical and lovely space full of things to see, buy, eat and experience.

Because this market? It was nothing like the one I remember from my first visit. Sure, part of it can be due to the fact that it's been years, and another part can be attributed to the pandemic we're still muddling through as a species.

It wasn't as expansive as I remember it being. We were able to do a full circuit of both sides of the street in less than 10 minutes, and that was with us strolling and stopping at a few booths along the way.

We did two extra passes through both sides of the market, just to make sure we hadn't missed a turn or a booth but weren't able to spend nearly as much time there as I'd wanted or planned on.

Heading out of the market, we took one of the flights of stairs that lead to the bridge above. That walk alone - a few steps from the market to the stairwell - was amazing and heartbreaking all at once. The sheer number of tents and homeless in that small area was astounding - their tents blocked off the sidewalk that we were trying to use to get to the Portland sign.

Disappointing, but I'm hopeful that it'll bounce back to the glory that I'm holding in my mind, once the world bounces back as well.

Same junk you can buy at any low-end craft fair anywhere in the world. Nothing unique. While it's nice to walk around near the river, like all of Portland, there are homeless people and tent cities everywhere. Depressing.

We came here after visiting the Farmers Market at PSU first. Most of the stalls are craft vendors, and you may find some interesting ones. We bought a headache eye pillow made from flax seeds from one, and it's already been put to good use. There are some food trucks as well. Check out Horn of Africa which serves Ethiopian food.

We hadn't been in 15 years, but the market still has a fun, funky, relaxed vibe. Plenty of booths with lots of interesting art and crafts, and a range of food options. The neighborhood, like Portland in general, has clearly been through some hard times, but it is definitely worth going to if you are in Portland on a Saturday.

I found the suggestion for visiting Portland’s Saturday market on several websites so I thought it was a pretty safe bet for an enjoyable time. It didn’t disappoint. My family, which includes teens, had a fun time. I wish we will have tried some of the great looking foods. Many local artists as well as other NW novelties made it fun to check out each vendor. I’d wished on several occasions that I had brought more than a carry on for our visit so I could take more back home with me. Fun time!

We enjoyed looking at the really large number of booths. We saw things we'd buy if we could easily get them home on a plane. There is food and porta potties on site. Nice location on the river. This was worth our time.

An absolute MUST if in Portland on a Saturday. Fresh and local food, flowers and just about any specialty you could think of. And if you’re hungry, lots of prepared food like Pine Street Biscuits.
