The Portland Union Station is a clean, safe Amtrak station. The surprise was that if you are a "Roomette" traveler, there is a special waiting room. Quite nice.

Portland Union Station is not large, but is nicely kept, busy with travelers, and has a nice restaurant. Look for nearby parking as the neighborhood is not great. There is a parking lot, but we were able to find street parking for very inexpensive.

It is illegal to smoke within 25 feet of buildings in Washington. Smoking is probably outside near the curb.
