Day outing

We were feeling a bit of cabin fever and took our dogs to the park. We went by the boat launch and swim area. It was beautiful.

This place is awesome! For boating, picnics, and fishing. We thoroughly enjoyed this place. Of course we were here in the summer. The reservoir is huge, you can drive around for days out there and late into the evening in the summer months.. Great place. Love having moved close to it

Went up to the reservoir , saw some deer and an almost empty, deserted reservoir! Last time we were up it was , August I think and busy as could be! Got a bad sunburn too!

There are two campgrounds. The larger, Prineville Resevoir Campground, takes reservations, The smaller, Jasper Point, is first come first serve. Both have electrical and water hookups. Both have boat docks. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Prineville Reservoir pulls out a monster telescope on Saturday Nights. That is a celestrial experiance not to be missed. Fishing is supposed to be... More

If you have a boat then this is a fun place to go boating otherwise there isn't much else to do. We stayed at a cabin through Oregon State Rec gov. The cabin was really nice and had a nice deck was was private. The view of the lake was awesome and it's close to the general store. It was... More

We were fortunate to book cabin #1 last October, and it was amazing! Due to the drought the state was experiencing, we had low expectations for the area, but were pleasantly surprised by the birds, and peaceful beauty of the reservoir. We are in the process of visiting all the "deluxe" (with bathroom) state park cabins in Oregon, and this... More

Took family to the State Park Swim Area and was disappointed. The swim area is very small, not a lot of sand. Had to sit on black top. Windy for our picnic. Bathrooms and changing area is very old and dilapidated. Trash cans were filled to the brim.

I'm almost hesitant to write this since we had such a relaxing time at Prineville State Park, and I wouldn't want it to get too popular! The campground has sites with lovely views along the hill, there is a fishing pier, swimming area with dock, boat launches and fish cleaning station. Further along the reservoir are Jasper Point State Park... More

The road from Prineville to the park was paved but lengthy. We thought we could drive beyond the park, but that was not the case. The park had limited parking along the road, but they had a fairly large lot near camping. Felt like it might be a good camping spot but not worth the drive for a day trip.

This reservoir can get really busy during the summer months, but early season is delightful. Campground, boat ramps, and fishing. Busier and noisier than the Ochoco Reservoir and due to its larger size, there seems to be more obnoxious party groups. But, a day trip is a nice way to spend some time on the water.
