My wife and I biked from Banks and had lunch in Veronia and returned to Banks. The trip was 44 miles long. The trail is completely paved and is more rolling hills except at mile marker 12 you have quite the hill at 11% grade. We bike often but had to walk part of it. The trail travels through mainly... Fantastic ride on repurposed railroad bed. Path starts at old mill pond-turned recreation lake and goes more than twenty miles. You can enter trail at numerous spots for free but I like to support trail care with $5.00 parking pass at lake on far edge of town. Trail passes by farms, fields, and forest glens, streams, bridges and a wonderful... More

If you're going one-way and shuttling, ride Vernonia to Banks (I.e., south) if you want a quicker trip with less uphill work. Ride Banks to Vernonia (I.e., north) if you want to spend more time n the trail and want to end your peddling at one of the several good restaurants in downtown Vernonia.

If you are a hiker or cyclist, don`t miss to make that trail. You can hike for hours on that 21 miles trail in pure nature. I walked my feet off and enjoyed the nice spring season while taking lots of pictures. There are rest areas and restrooms along the path. Most of trail is paved which make it nice... More

The bike trail begins in Banks and ends in Vernonia 21 miles away. The trail is only for bikes, people walking and horses, not cars. The climb is very gradual so anyone can walk or ride this path. You'll be amazed along the way at the high bridges overlooking a valley of moss and a river below. Then there is... More

We volunteered @ L L Stub Stewart State Park in the Discovery Center. A good portion of the Banks-Vernonia State Trail is within the State Park. We loved being able to go over the old trestle (which has fenced sides - so no worries about getting to close to the edge.) The entire trail is about 22 miles & is... More

The Banks-Vernonia State Trail is a 1920s-1965 abandoned eight-foot wide railroad bed with a gentle grade that has been paved for bicyclists, hikers and equestrians and stretches 21 miles (42 miles round trip) between the towns of Banks and Vernonia. There are six access points to the trial with parking, restrooms, picnic tables, picnic shelters and hitching post: (1) Banks... More

this is a 'must do' rail trail. it was wonderful ride for a summer day since most of the trail is in the shade. you'll ride slight incline for approx. 5 miles in mixed sun/shade and then another 5 or so through the woods. steep decline to cross road and steep incline on other side, decline in to Vernonia. Eat... More

A flat smooth ride in the country, just over 20 miles one way. You will definitely meet other cyclists out here. Excellent for beginners and also those who are uncomfortable riding in traffic. Just make sure to catch lunch in Vernonia!
