Fine to walk through

Has some nice restaurants and the colonial buildings are nice. Very empty however, and not a lot of shops or other things to see.

Coming back to Pennsylvania's capital after four years after having lived there almost nine reminded me how much I love where I now live -- while nowhere near the traffic woes of big cities, rush hour AM and PM here are not much fun. But the downtown and neighborhoods some blocks distant keep adding and renewing interesting restaurants and brewpubs... More

We seldom ever go to Harrisburg because of the ripp-off parking and very shady people everywhere. One of our coworkers was killed before he crossed the Market Street bridge after eating downtown a couple of years ago. They never found the killer. The Whitaker Center is beautiful and some great events, but go during the day and always carry! The... More

Expect to be angry at the parking situation if you are adventurous enough to visit one of the few good restaurants and entertainment venues in Harrisburg. We only go to Harrisburg on weekends and find ourselves scouting blocks of vacant "reserved" parking looking for one "public" space. We waited more than an hour to exit a parking garage, with fee... You really have to consider where Harrisburg is - 2 1/2 hrs from Philly and about the same to Pittsburgh. So, having moved to Carlisle recently. I am happy to have Harrisburg. There are several excellent restaurants and plenty of breweries in the region. Plus, you have easy access to history and nature.

OK, let's be honest: This is not a tourist destination city, but the local are generally so polite, helpful and kind that navigating spaces here is low stress. Don't confuse that with gregarious, outgoing or lively. It's not that folks are unfriendly, they are just not as socially outgoing as many other buzzy tourist spots. But steer clear if you... More

Downtown Harrisburg is a great place, if you're interested in exploring different types of food during your visit; there are more restaurants than shopping establishments. Shopping is limited and parking is free on Sunday. The best way to enjoy the city, is if you walk to the many places North and South of town. The entire city is a lovely... More

Downtown Harrisburg isn't so great. Small area, few shops and restaurants and plenty of blighted areas that don't even look very safe.
