Downtown is really up and coming with many restaurants. But there are definitely bad neighborhoods so you have to be careful.

A good stroll in a capital that is not overwhelming. Clean, and with the State Park never far away. I'd call it a friendly place to visit. Rather the opposite of New York

Loved the architecture and the parks along the river. We were looking for a nice, walkable experience, but ended up in some apparently sketchy areas. Sadly, no shortage of folks down on their luck.

Harrisburg gets a bad rap. There are lots of beautiful places in the center of town, along the river, out on city island. Of course there's crime and you need to be careful, but with proper precautions you can have a lovely time.

Capitol complex is a must see which you can easily spend a whole day visiting. The Capitol building is a hidden gem with jaw dropping murals and great beauty inside and out.

I used to live and still work in downtown Harrisburg. Me and my family still do visit downtown during the day and there are great bars and restaurants especially some good Sunday brunch places. You have the river walk, river front and variety of restaurants...More
