As China old towns are, this is one to visit. I really like there. People were very helpful even so I do not speak Chinese. They use their smart phone translation app to help.

This old city worth the turn as it's a real testimony of Yunnan history. Look around the architecture. You will also find a lot of small shops.Difficult to find someone able to speak english, there ,so be carefull in restaurant as the food is mainly spicy.

The nice area of the city to stroll around. The pagoda offer a nice photography exhibition (20 RMB per person) and great views of the area.

My trip in Jianshui of Yunnan province was so amazing and unforgettable that I still feel like going to there for another time. What impresses me most is the feeling that the city gives everyone. Although Jianshui is not more than well-known even in Yunnan, it is filled with a powerful sense of Chinese traditional culture. I stayed in Jianshui... More

We spent one night and the following morning here and really enjoyed it. It's less restored and more worn than Pingyao and Lijiang, which we liked. The old section is limited to a couple of streets, so a couple of hours suffices. The Confucius Temple is a must see. The Zhu Family Garden is also quite nice.

Located in between our trip from Kunming to Yuanyang. A nice stopover instead of the long road trip to Yuanyang. Not many tourist around and you hardly see people selling souvenirs. Instead you see locals in their daily chores. Very different from the other ancient cities I have visited which tends to be touristy. It took us 5 hours by... More

Just ok. Yes the architecture is beautiful, but you cant really enjoy it when there are few pedestrian streets. There is also m=not much to see in the way of local goods and crafts...or even food. I prefered the town a lot better after 6pm when the many of the stores were closing and there was no traffic. I travelled... More

This is one of the most interesting and accessible "Old Towns" 古城 in China. It is now very much on the tourist map and bus groups are coming in on package tours. Also many more foreigners wandering around. Signs are good, everything is walkable. Colorful and still mostly authentic. Many places of interest inside the Old Town. Some free, some... More

I was here once before, in October last year. Since then they have put up more direction signs to help you find various destinations. Still not crowded during the weekdays. So much more congenial to come here than to have to fight your way through the noisy mobs in some of China's other ancient towns such as Lijiang and Pingyao.... More

It's lovely town, it speaks by himselff - "Hello, I'm old chinese town, full of history and charm". From the first night, when we walked through almost empty streets I loved it and it was definetely lovely sight in the morning. We visited Confucian park and temples - so beuatiful and peaceful - must see. Then walk-walk - walk, you'll... More
