It's out of season at the moment but rang in the morning to see if I could get a tour for 1 or join a group tour as per website suggestion - and by 11 am a volunteer guide had been found and I was touring around the Merchant's House! Main 'tourist' activity in town - so I'd definitely suggest... More

This is a stunning House in the Market Town of Marlborough. Marlborough is delightful with its long open market place with boutique shops. It retains a distinct feel and even Pepys came to stay. The Merchant House doubles as both a shop ( the profits of which help keep the House going) and an icon. This is a building for... More

I know that when we visited the 'house tours' were out of season but the shop (from which all profits got to continual restoration of the house) was beautiful. Perfect for Christmas gifts and decorations. Upstairs the front room which is normally a period living room was full of Christmas magic! We're coming back April to October to go on... More

My friend booked up a guided tour of this magnificent house and garden. Our volunteer tourguide was a charming, knowledgable lady who made our visit very special by going into great historical detail about the building ,its inhabitants and its history. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recomend it to anyone who has a little time to spare in the fabulous... The guide was very informative and helpful. They work tirelessly to preserve and protect this interesting Tudor house. Not suitable for the infirm except for the lovely garden. Well worth a visit 👍

Popped in here on impulse and was delighted by it. I give it only 4/5 as they told us it's an on-going project with much more to come. But the staff are very knowledgeable and it's a beautiful, atmospheric old building with many a tale to tell. I'm going to be asked in a minute if it's suitable for kids. Yes,... More

It takes a good hour and we were lucky - just myself and better half. The knowledgeable guide suffered all our questions gladly and we learned a great deal about the domesticity of our ancestors. The cost of repair and upkeep made both me and my wife welcome the input of the National Lottery. It is probably out of the... More

If you are interested in old houses and history, this is not a place to miss when visiting Marlborough. Built after the great fire of Marlborough, the house was added onto by successive generations of the same family. The tour is instructive and illuminating - and you get a glimpse of how the family lived. All pieces of furniture in... More
