Our young (4 and 6) children enjoyed our visit to this museum. There was a fun dressing up area with all sorts of different hats to try on that kept them entertained for ages. Brilliant that it is free too.

I was surprised to see that it was free to go in and so many hats from all over the years and a very good gift shop too.

We loved this place. The tour guide was lovely and very informative. Learnt a lot and the kids liked trying on the old hats and listening to the 'old people' on the TV. Well worth a visit

I was there just before 10am so managed to get there before any school trips arrived. Nick was my tour guide and he was brilliant. Really brought the place to life with his own families history in hat making and his obvious interest and passion in the amazing engineering used to both make the hat blocks and hats. I visited... Hat exhibits to see, lots of machinery and workshops, display boards and audio-visual accounts. There used to be a cafe but unfortunately has closed. The small shop sells good gifts, including real quality hats/caps.

the experience of knowing where the term mad hatter comes from, this factory in stockport Cheshire has an extensive show of equipment and hats that were made on the site really good to learn how they cleaned the top hats of people who in the early century wore these hats. The guide was excellent and knew his stuff about the... More

There isn't much to do in Stockport but this is a nice enough place to kill a few minutes. It's near the station and the shops. The exhibits include both hats and the equipment used in the manufacture of hats. This is about as good as a museum about hats can possibly be and certainly better than its surroundings

Started off with a guided talk from a chap called Gordon. Well informed, professional and engaging. Rest of the museum is well laid out and full of fascinating exhibits. Highly recommended

My daughter and I visited the Hat Museum yesterday afternoon. We had a guided tour by a lovely, informative lady and found the process of making hats fascinating. There are also plenty of hats/head dresses on display from the 1790's onwards. Although we didn't have children with us there appeared to be plenty to keep children amused with a dressing... More
