A great 13th century circular keep standing on an earlier Norman mound, atop a high spur beside the River Fowey. Twice visited by the Black Prince, it finally saw action during the Civil War. Commanding fantastic views, it makes an excellent picnic spot. Child friendly and dog friendly.

We were staying in Cornwall for half term and have membership to English heritage so thought we'd take a diversion on our way home to go explore this castle . The lady on reception was extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. Quite steep steps up but the views were stunning. Kids and dog enjoyed playing hide and seek. Doesn't take long... More

Quite a well looked after English Heritage site with informative notice boards at key points on the tour. Plenty of steps to climb to get up to the high battlements with super views of the surrounding countryside. Some of the information boards need replacing as we couldn't read them all. Overall worth going to visit.

Visited this castle using an English Heritage 2 for the price of 1 offer. Well, we would have gladly paid the full price! It was a glorious day which always helps but what a lovely place to visit with interesting and well written information boards and plenty of artist's impressions of how the castle and/or rooms once looked which really... We noticed the castle on a map we had and decided to visit. Carpark eventually found and we walked from there to the gate. Paid our entry and walked through to see the castle - it's impressive. A round castle with motte - wonderful history - plenty of information to read - all the different rooms can be pictured and... More

We were in Lostwithiel for the day and I remembered my Uncle telling me that Restormel was worth a visit (He said this about 50 years ago so you can see I am fast to take up a suggestion). We went out and up the hill and the castle itself was completely hidden until we had parked in the large... More

We stumbled on this castle by accident having googled the word restormel - the name of our hotel! Wow! Why is this attraction not being shouted from the ramparts?! This is the most fantastic motte and Bailey castle I have ever seen. It is phenomenal - are English Heritage keeping it a secret? Motte and Bailey to me generally means... More

Lovely place to visit lots to look around and walk around the outside too with lovely views, they have toilets too worth noting and some places do not. Little Kiosk selling the lovely usual ginger wine and more, the trees surrounding the grounds and very pretty and worth exploring all that area, car park nice and flat so okay to... More
