With the help of a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Trinity House renovated the Engine Room at Lizard Lighthouse, retaining some of the old engines. It now also features new exhibition material, an audio visual room and a number of interactive displays. The Lizard Lighthouse Heritage Centre was officially opened in 2009 by HRH The Princess Royal.

The distinctive twin towers of Lizard Lighthouse mark the most southerly point of mainland Britain. See displays depicting Trinity House's history, housed in the original engine room. It was commissioned in 1752. For over 250 years, the lighthouse has provided a welcoming landfall light to vessels crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

Tours of Lizard Lighthouse are organised under licence from the Corporation of Trinity House.

First time go into a light house, it's very good to learn how everything thing was built, what it was for and how it functioned during the past 500 years.

A great day at the Lizard. We were there to visit the Lizard hopefully to see the sea lions. arrived early morning just before the tide came in, and was greeted to four sea lions basking, Needed the toilet and the only place to go is the light house. On being in the light house we decided to have a... More

The Lizard peninsula is absolutely fabulous. The heritage center is an interesting place and quite educational. It was very misty on our visit so visability was poor, but we enjoyed our day..

Having been to Land's End on a previous visit to Cornwall we decided to visit Britain's most southerly point this time and went to the Lizard. I had been a bit wary because Land's End is so commercialised but needn't have worried because the Lizard still has the rugged beauty you expect. Our tour of the lighthouse took around an... More

We could only walk around the outside as the heritage centre was shut. We arrived Wednesday 28 December , we forgot to check the opening times before we left.

While enjoying our Cornish Christmas holiday we took the opportunity to visit the Lizard. My great uncle was once stationed here and I've always wanted to visit. Due to it being the holiday period it was closed but we were able to enjoy the walk's, coastal views and get a real feel what it must have been like for my... More

After walk-in a lot of the coastal trail I was underwhelmed by this spot despite a visit being highly recommended by friends. I went on fairly warm weekend with a lot of tourists about.

Made a trip to visit the light house with our 3 year old as it is one of very few now that you can actually go up inside. Unfortunately when we arrived we were told that under 5s are not allowed in. Tad disappointing, the visitors centre does at least have some relatively interesting things but i wish i'd done... More
