The blockhouse is one of the last remaining ones on the Rideau Canal. The museum provided an overview of the canal and the purpose of the blockhouse. It also provided some local history that was interesting.

The blockhouse in Merrickville gives a full history of the incredible feat of building the Rideau Canal. There are lots of artifacts, photos, and a good video detailing this UNESCO World Heritage site. There is no charge to enter but a donation is requested.

Good wet day attraction. Free. Absorbs you in the history of merrickville. 1of 4 blockhouses built by colonel by. Never used in anger though. Some artefacts of a bygone era.has one of merrickville train station signs. Now defunct. Well worth a trip.
