Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters was formerly the Australian Shark and Ray Centre Port Stephens! Still offering the amazing experience of swimming and interacting with Sharks and Rays, Irukandji now has a guided tour included for all visitors, exciting new changes to the existing exhibits and NEW Exhibits coming soon.

The new owners are passionate and dedicated to our Ocean's conservation and Marine Science. Every visitor can learn about the ocean depths and step outside their comfort zone by diving in with these amazing ambassador animals. Once you have experienced these majestic creatures individual personalities, you will have the confidence to take the next step and dive Looking Glass, a popular Nelson Bay shark dive site.

Wondering about the name Irukandji? The Irukandji Jellyfish may be the most deadly thing in the world! Coming soon you will see them with your own eyes and learn about the Jellyfish blooms that are currently taking over the ocean like never in history.

If you are after an out of this world experience that can be shared with the whole family (even tiny babies get a wetsuit and booties for a swim with the Sharks) then Irukandji is your next adventure waiting to happen.

A very interesting hands on experience. I took my daughter and niece and nephew aged between 11 and 13 years old. You get in the tanks with the fish/ rays and have a full hands on experience. We all thought it was great and learned a lot. Some of the rays are huge. The 'guide' was very knowledgable and happy... More

Great attraction and good value for money. Highly recommend getting wet and getting in with the Rays and sharks. Friendly creatures and staff make you feel welcome and safe. The smaller creatures are very inquisitive and happy to swim around you and be petted. The larger ones will come for a look and we were told they are happy to... More

We came with a big group of friends and we all have small children ranging from 4 months to 3 years old. My son loved the feeding and patting of the sharks and rays and the staff were informative and patient. In total, we did spend the average 90 minutes there and we all had lots of fun. The only... Hi gloomyash, Thank you, we are so happy you had a great time! We get to watch so many little ones blossom its awesome. We cannot wait to get showers (they are coming in the new centre as we do not own the building here and are unable to renovate). Thank you again so much for your review Cheers More

It was unique experiences to get so closed to stingray and shark, touching and feeding. The staff have in-depth knowledge and seems to be closed friend with the animals. However, it was quite small venue and not complete facilities for this price. The toilet and changing rooms are not connected. There was no bathing room and amenity like soap and... More

Hi Nok T, Thank you so much for taking the time to review us! We are moving to a new location and rebuilding including showers! Its is top of the list in the planning- we are unable to renovate here as we do not own the land and building (apologies for that). As for the soap and towel- we do... More

This is a must do in Port Stephens! Staff are amazing and the experience is better. Although I didn't get into the water, I had an amazing time touching the fish and feeding them. I would definitely return and would recommend this!

Absolutely great. Patient staff. Well worth a visit. We all got in wet suits and would certainly recommend that for the complete experience. Our son just did not want to get out! In fact we went on for a second feed/ pat so no push to leave by the staff - can stay as short or as long as you... More

Hi adrian b, Thank you!! Especially for mentioning the "can't understand how anyone would low score" bit! I agree, I don't think the guy who wrote that we were a rip off even came inside.. he cant have! As for the showers- we know :( We will be getting them in the new centre when its finished- we cant afford... More

Staffs were very kind, patient and took the pain to explain so much detail about the sharks and Ray which only shows their knowledge but also the consistency of service. We were able to touch and feel the sharks and rays, feed them and certainly learnt a lot! Seemed bit expensive, but was worth in the end!!

Expensive to get in & you have to hire everything to meet the sharks & rays, the only thing free was the parking (for now).

Hi Lain_and_louise I'm really sorry you feel that we are expensive. As far as I can tell we are they cheapest Shark Encounter in the country, and even most of overseas. It costs $49.50 total (including wetsuits etc) for an adult to be in the water feeding and surrounded by our amazing friendly Sharks and Rays for as long as... More
