The jail isn't massive- but structurally it's very ominous on the narrow streets of Jim Thorpe. The tour is short, but they pack a lot of information into it. The tour maybe a little rote, but still full of interesting facts about the prison.

We went on the tour as a family for something different to do. The feeling is dark and creepy. A historical hand print they say they painted over keeps reappearing on the wall of one of the prison cells.

We were spending an afternoon wandering around Jim Thorpe and decided to go through the Jail Museum. While it is small (30 minutes is more than enough time for the visit) it was interesting and inexpensive. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. I would suggest...More

Interesting history presented. Definitely a must see if you are Irish or have a connection to the Molly Maguires. I felt the tour guide could have been more natural rather than rehearsed. It is hard to believe that the jail was run use until the...More

Thanks for the nice comments on your Old Jail Tour. I agree the guides sometimes sound rehearsed - because they have memorized and rehearsed their 45 minute tour - and when they give 5 to 6 tours every day, they sometimes lose inflection in their...More

We learned a great deal, we were decently scared and the people are exceptionally kind. If you are Irish this is a must-see place particularly if you have kids.

Good informative tour. We enjoyed it. Cost was only $7 per adult. Some days there is a long wait. Worth doing while there. Small parking area but if you dont get a spot there than you gotta walk up a hill.More

About a 30 minute guided tour, tour guide was good, and you could go back after to revisit at leisure. Really an eye-opener about the past and why jail was not a good place to be. Loved the stories of local history - the escape...More

Glad to hear you enjoyed your visit to the Old Jail and learned a bit of history. Yes, it's a "great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!". See you in Jail - the Old Jail, of course.

Our family "girls trip" of all ages enjoyed the tour. Interesting facts about the jail and some history of the town. Only 1/2 hour tour. You were able to still walk around inside after the tour if you wanted to so you didn't feel rushed....More
