An impression, for James Buchanan, arguably the most qualified person to be elected President, and maybe the lowest rated President, lived here before his presidency and after the White House, until his death in 1868. Our docent was knowledgeable and very informative. This well preserved and well furnished house was a delight to walk around. My anti-Buchanan perspective was altered.

We hoped to learn about the President and his life and his time in the White House with his achievements/lack of them. Instead all you have is a tour of the house he lived in before and after his presidency which is not what we hoped for. At $15 each the short tour is expensive. So if you are interested... More

Me and my sister toured Wheatland yesterday and we loved it! Our guide Tim was amazing.I learned a lot about a president I knew very little about from a guide who was very learned and passionate about President Buchanan. Tim provided an excellent historical narrative along with a lot of interesting family history and anecdotes. Thanks Tim, Nancy and Ann

I took a date to this fine site a few weeks ago. As a Pennsylvania native, there are not a lot of United States Presidents that we can fully claim as our own. Ben Franklin was not a President, Dwight Eisenhower WAS a President and descended from PA Dutch stock, but was a native of Kansas, and, for some reason,... More

My wife and I visited Wheatland last Friday, which was a beautiful day. We had purchased ticket on-line prior to leaving on our trip to Lancaster for a few days. By the conclusion of our visit, we were both very glad that we had selected it out of the various other things to do in the area. The house is... More

The tour takes an hour. Our tour guide was great. He had a voice that could be heard by all and he wanted for all of the visitors to collect around him before speaking. He was very knowledgeable about James Buchanan and it was a very informative history lesson.

Wheatland is only a short drive from my home and I didn't rank it very high originally. My 7 year old did fine and listened to our tour guide, which is a difficult task. The place is well maintained and has many of his belongings, 60-75% according to the guide. If I walk away from any tour with a different... More

The only time I've visited Wheatland was when it's decorated for Christmas, and the tour is holiday-centric. The mansion was gorgeous with all the Christmas decorations and several trees. The actors did a commendable job portraying the time period.

It's great to know that you enjoyed your experience of Wheatland's Yuletude Holiday Special. If you loved yuletide you'll have to visit the the grounds here at Wheatland during the spring and summer seasons! Our Tanger aboretum features a host of must see plants and trees, all of which have began to bloom beautifully. More
