Come anytime, but a favorite of mine is Christmas. The house is festive and tour guides will take you back to a day-gone-by. It's Christmas and history and remembering a slower pace of Lancaster County. Candlelight tour is a speciality.

We have been through Lancaster several times, but could not find Wheatland. We finally did get there. Wheatland is the only home of a President from Pennsylvania. He tried to keep the country together prior to Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War, but was unsuccessful. We has a very good tour of the house and its history.

The house is the way it was when Buchanan lived there. He was the first president to have a bath tub. The guides" are very helpful.

This is the house of President James Buchanan -- the president prior to Lincoln. He was our only bachelor president having never married, but who raised his niece and nephew in this house. He also has the dubious distinction of being our "worst" president - though that might be debated according to your definition of what makes one a "worst"... More

The guided tour is well worth the $ to see the only President from PA and the only Bachelor presidents home. well preserved and the costumed tour guides were very well informed. I personally wanted to see more of the estate and home but it was raining and another tour was right behind us. We also purchased a museum pass... More

A great visit, Wheatland is staffed by a dedicated band of volunteers dressed in period costume, they bring what is a fascinating period home to life. The house itself is supported by a visitor centre with a range of gifts as well as drinks and snacks. The home of USA President James Buchanan, the guides tell the story of Buchanan... More

We enjoyed our tour with a very nice, humorous lady in a very large hooped dress! Learned some very interesting facts about President Buchanan who we previously knew nothing about. The house was lovely, very liveable and well worth seeing. The grounds are not large but very nice nevertheless. Recommended.
