Sept 2021
We spent two nights in a yurt at Clear Creek State Park. The hiking was amazing. We arrived before the yurt was ready for check in so we hiked Korb Trail to Little Coon to Clear Creek Trail to Ox Shoe Trail and back. Beautiful! Checked into the yurt and found the floor in the kitchen was soaked with pinesol smelling water that never got fully mopped up from the cleaning crew. We used paper towels to dry the floor and it was disgusting how dirty it was. The yurt was large with two single bunk beds, a dining table, a stove and full size refrigerator - no running water. There was a tremendous amount of cobwebs and spiders. We anticipated this and brought bug spray which we sprayed and sprayed and sprayed everywhere. I can't emphasize enough how many spiders there were. I know the nature of a yurt is that is very 'tent' like, but if some effort was made to do some better interior cleaning along the roof/wall line and the ceiling center peak it would really go a long ways towards keeping the bugs down. The yurt location was right next to the River Trail trailhead and the next day we hiked a loop of River Trail to Irish Rock to Boundary to Hunter Trail. Fabulous, fabulous hiking! That afternoon we did some of the Tobecco/Tadler Run Trail but found it not nearly as enjoyable as our previous hikes. Very heavy storm blew through later that evening and the yurt leaked in several spots from the upper peak/vent area. Likely wouldn't leak in a lighter rain, this was a really heavy downpour. After checking out of the yurt the next morning my husband told me there was a mouse in the wall right by his bunk bed, he didn't want to tell me why we were still there as he knew I'd be less than pleased. He could hear it scratching and would pound on the wall to try to get it to stop. Overall loved the park. Disappointed a bit in the yurt, but for only $45/night really can't complain.

Small park with both picnic/day use and camping sites. Swimming in creek, fishing in creek and edge of Clarion. Also a canoe access point. A very small education center sometimes has programs.

Don't miss the Beartown rocks. Simply mind blowing. Larger than a small house. Many interesting hidden details to discover. Observation platform view was incredible.

This campground is located in a beautiful, picturesque location - the confluence of Clear Creek and the Clarion River. While the park itself is quite extensive, the campsites for tents are a bit underwhelming. Not only are they quite small, but they need to be leveled a bit; if not the whole of the site, perhaps tent pads might be erected?
We were here during the week of the Fourth, and it was packed nearly to capacity. The Clarion River is wide and shallow, and it provided a relaxing spot to cool off during the 90 and above degree days. The park also has some river/canoe sites, which would be an interesting option for the future. They are right along the river bank and are better shaded, larger, and more level than the tent sites.

Loved it here. Took my girlfriend and dog. My dog had so much fun playing in the creek. The park is very clean and the the camp sites are well managed and good sized. I'll definitely keep coming back.

some of the nicest CCC cabins in the system. great access to the Clarion River Trail and fishing. the bordering Clear Creek State Forest is more remote, but has no facilities. Very similar terrain to Cooks Forest. Feels like your in a half size Sequoia National Forest!!

My parents took me and my sisters to this park at least once a year when we were small and I had fond memories of it. It has changed a good deal from the last time I was there; I don't remember all the cabins or the tent sites and motor home sites - but it has been a long time since I was there last. The tent sites are at the back of the park, along the Clarion River and appeared to be large and very nice. There was a bathroom/shower house close by but be aware that showers are $4.00 each. The cabins are cute. At the front of the cabin/campground area there are small log cabins. These are pretty close together and don't offer a lot of privacy, however, there are bigger stone cabins along one of the campground roads that look to be very nice, large, and are situated on the river. There are plenty of bathrooms too, some with electric and flush toilets. All the restrooms I saw were handicapped accessible. The park now has a beach area that is good for smaller children, but my grandson had a blast swimming in Clear Creek, where he found a very large swimming hole. There are a lot of picnic sites along the main road, some close to the road and some back in the woods. My grandson and daughter loved this park, as do I, and I highly recommend visiting it at least once!

Way too crowded, too noisy, and so much traffic. Seriously, so much friggin traffic. The campsites are really close to one another, allowing for very little privacy. Rangers rarely patrol the grounds, allowing for noisy late nights. Maybe 1/4 of the sites have any sort of shade, and that's being generous. It could be really nice, but we won't be visiting again.

So all the sites seem to be for both RV and tent, so assume there is a mix of tenting and RV's?

we own a nearby camp without running water and the previous owners said they took showers(fee)at the park. do they have showers year round and what is the fee? thanks

Yes, you can take shower for a fee. I believe it was around $5.00 ea, I don't believe they shut down the facilities until after Deer season, because you can rent cabins at that time and they do fill up.

Have ticks been an issue while tent camping?

Ticks while camping are always an issue with me. This is a large forest with lots of deer in the area. I would check for them daily to avoid the possibility of getting infected with lyme disease.

We are interested in a riverside campsite that allows dogs. I see most are listed as not available to book online. How hard is it to get one of those sites if we go mid week?
Momguide

All availability is shown online in my experience. If you are looking too far out it may show no availability as you Are outside the reservation window. Midweek is easier and you should be able to see availability on line. I do know there are always cancellations, so keep checking back. The only sites you can't book online are for canoe, primitive camping.

How heavily do they enforce 5 people max per tent campsite? Would it be trouble if I brought 6 or 7? I figured it was more tent count than head count.

As long as you don't draw attention to your party and not abusing the rule you'll probably be alright

Can you bring a mini gas grill with you on the beach by the lake or do they have charcoal grills available?

They do have grills, but they were all being used when I was there, I would bring your own.
