The Lemoyne House is a local historic treasure for several reasons. Dr. Francis Lemoyne practiced medicine, locally, for many years and was a highly regarded surgeon as well. Recognized abolitionists, slaves were spirited through the hallways of his home as they traveled north on a Journic to freedom. A trailblazer, Dr. Lemoyne owned and operated the first crematory in our... More

Chuck really knows the history of the house, the American wars...he's a walking, talking encyclopedia. Also good for genealogy research. Contacting him in advance about that would be good.

As a history major that went to college in town, we went here as a class trip and this place was far too cluttered. The people working there were enthusiastic but there was no means to touring the place that seemed organized at all because there was already too much stuff.

This was my 2nd visit and enjoyed again. Learned different things from each guide. Interesting family with connections to the underground RR. Nice home that stayed in the family.

The stories of the recent discoveries make everything even more exciting. The humanity of Dr. Lemoyne in those troubled times... great information that is not found in the history books in school.

Even if you are not a history buff, this is a must see. It was such a delight to see it restored (I can remember it as a store and later with the back wall caved in.) Learned a lot about the time period that I did not know that I can know share (I am a docent also). Docents... More

The LeMoyne House is an interesting stop in Washington, PA. The LeMoyne family was important to the town's early years. I have always found the stories of the Underground Railroad to be quite interesting. The LeMoyne family took part in this effort, helping runaway slaves move north toward freedom. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and interesting. He was also willing... More
