We were there Sat of Father's Day Weekend, without reservations. Very dumb on our part, but they were able to pull it off. The owners are very organized and friendly. We set off for 2 hrs, which was about the limit for us (have only gone a couple times between us). Very nice location on the river. Awesome staff, good... More

This was such a great find for a beautiful day trip. We were staying in Marietta and hopped over to Wrightsville. The staff here were so helpful and informative.

What a gem! Great location on the Susquehanna, awesome proprietors and sales people and excellent pricing. Rented kayaks for a paddle with our grandkids and had a great time. If there was a B&B we'd be there more often.

Make Shanks Mare a destination, or visit it while on an outing down to the river. Either way, enjoy their historic old building and sit in a rocker on the long porch looking at the river. Steve and Liz have had their store for over 30 years, previously in downtown York, so they have a comprehensive offering of outdoor wear,... More

A great business sitting on the banks of the Susquehanna River. Gear for all types of water sports along with guided tours and classes. They now have a restaurant to quell your hunger!

We recently participated in the Paddle and Dinner event. Two of us had kayaked before but it had been a while and the third person in our party had never kayaked. The event leaders were very patient and did a quick lesson for the beginners. No need to bring your own equipment. They had everything there to rent. We had... More

Enjoyable kayak ride for $26, lasted around 2 hr, safe traveling on the Susquehanna along the shoreline, beautiful scenery & good place for a rookie's (like me) first kayak experience. Nice gift shop and I heard the snack bar/cafe is nice. Nice laid back staff who is helpful, & likely a family-owned business.

The best outfitters ever. Family owned and operated, and they make everyone else feel like family, and treat them like family. Year-round events. Kayak excursions, live music on the beautiful front porch with one of the most scenic views of the Susquehanna. Lock 2 Cafe has an adequate selection of light fare and is always delicious. On paddle nights with... More

If you have active kids, this is a great way to break-away from the museums and typical attractions. We rented two kayaks (a double and a triple) and had a wonderful time. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful and we would do this again. This is a memory maker!
