Hunting Island opened late this year due to heavy damage from Hurricane Matthew. Now it is closed for the rest of the year due to flooding caused by Hurricane Irma.

We were not able to visit the entire park due to rains earlier in the week. This was our first time to the Park but we fell in love with it. Maybe not the best place for families with small children and definitely not for...More

We visited Hunting Island State Park this past weekend (Labor Day weekend, 2017) and it was surreal. My sister suggested we go there (she lives in Beaufort) and I was very excited about seeing the "jungle-gym" of trees as well as the lighthouse, but we...More

We love this place...my family randomly found it on a trip to Hilton Head several years ago, and we spend at least a few hours here on our vacation each year. Lots of nature -- fish, crabs, mollusks, etc. Beautiful clear water. LIMITED SERVICES --...More

This is a beautiful place to visit in the low country of South Carolina. Beautiful, pristine beaches, nature trails and well maintained parking areas add to the experience.

We went to Hunting Island because we had heard so much about it. It was really sad to see the damage that the hurricane had done. Seemed like hundreds of trees down on the beach.

We had never been before but had heard how beautiful it was before Mathew came through last October and destroyed so much of this park. They just opened this August and we were there for 4 nights. We had some rains and many of the...More

Somewhat rough because they're still recovering from the hurricane damage but there are also positives. New bath houses! Camp sites are mostly shaded and have water and electrical hook-ups. Quiet. The only downer is access for mobility impaired people. There is really no hard surface...More

Same as the other responder, Hunting Island will be closed until early 2018 due to Irma, not sure if sites have been washed out or reconfigured, so may want to check back next year.

Just saw on The Beaufort Gazette's Facebook today page that due to Irma the island is going to be closed for the rest of the year. It's taken a big hit the past year with storms. I suggest monitoring their website and... More

The park as well as the beach is closed. They will not allow you to go on the beach. Besides, it would be very dangerous.
