More
The Foundation welcomes visitors to explore daily life in one of Charleston's most exquisite dwellings. Located in Downtown Charleston near High Battery, the Nathaniel Russell House Museum, 51 Meeting Street, is widely recognized as one of America's most important neoclassical dwellings. Historic Charleston Foundation purchased the National Historic Landmark in 1955, and the house served as the Foundation's headquarters for 37 years. Today, the interiors are restored to their original 1808 grandeur and surrounded by formal gardens.

As visiting Brits, based on descriptions given by a walking tour guide and the tourist leaflets we expected more. It is a very nice house indeed, and would be worth a visit even in the UK. But it noway compares with, say, a comparable English...More

Beautiful house and grounds, but the house itself, aside from the floating staircase, is not that interesting. Very little furniture remains and there are no personal effects. In a mansion of this size, it is a tragedy that you see only three or four rooms....More

The floating staircase stole the show but so many other details put into restoring the house make it worth the visit!

One of the handsomest Federal houses in America, with lovely grounds and superb furnishings. Excellent guided tours.

We stopped in to take the tour and enjoy the gardens on a hot Sunday. The your guide was very knowledgable and told a great story of the home and its family. Fun tour - I would recommend it.

Beautiful home and a great history. The tour shows you around the house and tells you a bit about the family. Really nice home

This was one of the very best "old home" tour I have taken. Meticulously restored and researched. Fabulous tour guide. Convenient to other sites. (We also found good parking nearby.) Beautiful furnishings with interesting "uses" i.e the wing back chair which looks like a regular...More

This is one of the two homes for which you can buy a combo ticket online. It is a sharp contrast to the Aiken-Rhett house as this one is fully restored and offers a guided tour so if you have questions, you can get answers....More

This was a very good tour. Lasted about 30 minutes. It was slanted a little more towards the "Federal Style" design of the home rather than the history of the times.

This is a really neat place to visit. Our tour guide, Lucy, was lovely and very knowledgeable. The home is very interesting. The tour is about 35 minutes long and it's air conditioned inside which makes it a good afternoon spot to see after done...More
