Rangers and volunteers very knowledgeable and fun. Enjoyed ferry ride and time at fort. Not a history buff myself, but still enjoyed.

Large parking garage in the adjacent block to the Visitors Center. Tickets for the various ferry times are purchased at the entrance to the Visitors Center. At the back of the Center is a small waiting area with rest rooms and an outdoor platform with good views of landmark Ravenel Bridge, the Cooper River and Mount Pleasant area. Loading is... More

A really good experience seeing US history. The boat ride out to Fort Sumter was very pleasant too. A must see when you go to Charleston.

In many ways the history of the Civil War begins here. If you are interested in history and the Civil War in particular this is a must visit. You need to catch a ferry run by the NPS for your trip to the island. A good sized parking garage a short walk from the visitor center make this an easy... More

The trip out to Ft. Sumter was by boat and a wonderful way to get an idea of the geography of Charleston! The actual visit to the old Fort brought home how South Carolina figured in the history of our country. South Carolina was the first to declare independence from England, the first to secede from the union, and South... More

We liked visiting the fort and the boat ride was great. The Rangers are very informative and the fort is a definite must. You can see dolphins and pelicans in flight. The fort has actual bullet shells in the walls.

The Park Service Ranger gave an outstanding talk about the cannons and guns shot from Fort Sumter. You should walk up the stairs to the museum at the fort. There were some interesting artifacts there including the different types of cannon balls. You only have around an hour to explore the fort before the boat leaves, but that is enough... More

Wonderful experience, great boat ride out to the island, lots of important history to hear. The museum at the fort is very informative as well. Don't be surprised that you will learn things you never knew about American history.

I've been going to Fort Sumter for some 40 years, and it never disappoints. I enjoy the history learned and the pleasant harbor cruise. I enjoy spending time in the quiet openness on the fort. Fort Sumter should not be missed.
