There's no better way to see historic Charleston than from the vantage point of an Old South Carriage. Family owned and operated since 1983, Old South Carriage Company offers fully narrated hour-long tours by licensed guides wearing the Confederate uniform with the Red Sash. Come to our English-style stable at 14 Anson Street, just 2 blocks from The City Market and meet our friendly and professional staff. Reservations are not necessary as tours depart every 20 - 30 minutes throughout the day. A ramp leading to a platform makes boarding easy. Old South Carriage Company uses French Percherons and Belgian Draft horses. These sturdy employees vacation at Sugah Cain, the owner's 65-acre plantation on John's Island. For 2-3 months annually, these beautiful horses are free to run in large pastures or leisurely graze under century-old live oaks. Tours operate daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 (DST) 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (EST). ~Look for the Red Sash~ Our symbol of a quality horse-drawn carriage tour of Charleston, South Carolina.

We arrived for our tour and it started to sprinkle; however, approximately 10 minutes after leaving the barn it began to pour. Our tour guide didn't even miss a beat. She kept us entertained and our mind off the soggy weather. I have been a...More

We took an afternoon carriage tour with two children (ages 8&6). The carriage ride is about an hour. I wasn't aware of how they picked routes but all carriage rides are randomly given a numbered ticket and each number corresponds to a different part of...More

There are a handful of carriage rides in the historical district, and I'm sure they're all fine, but part of why I chose Old South Carriage was because their drivers worn period costume. That said, the process worked well from boarding to disembarking without a...More

This was our 2nd tour in 2 years. The first one we enjoyed very much - this one not so much. Unfortunately, I have to point out that the tour guide was medicare - if at all. She missed out on important history facts (slavery,...More

We took the 5pm Historic Residential tour last week which went through part of downtown, along the waterfront, through some residential streets and back. The tour provided a good overview of Charleston and the tour guide spoke a lot about its history, which we enjoyed....More

The carriage ride itself is a wonderful way to see Charleston and it's attractions all at once so I would recommend doing it early on in your trip. Our guide John was fantastic. Knowledgeable, funny, and a great story teller. He was very gracious about...More
